    Earthwork plan help

LGP Dozer or excavator (preferably both). I don't think you will find finishing a 40' high 1:1 slope with a track loader very much fun and likely not possible.

Komatsu PC400-5: Cheap parts? What to watch for on this model?

Yes it's the front lip of the bucket. It is solid. The shanks are split and weld to each side.

Komatsu PC400-5: Cheap parts? What to watch for on this model?

I got the shanks at HeavyQuip. A torch is less than ideal, but very doable. I would go easy on the plasma cutter getting the old ones off. They are pretty indiscriminate about what they cut. You may cut the heck out of the frog.

    D7R and D7R XR Differences

I was wondering why the d7 doesn't exist in an XL configuration, and the d6 doesn't exist in an XR configuration.

D9G or D9H - What do you recommend?

I've yelled at the computer screen more than once over the issue of fuel consumption in large machines. You aren't driving them to the corner store for a six pack. They move more material for the fuel they burn, they also move more for the time you spend doing it. There are job specific...

Komatsu PC400-5: Cheap parts? What to watch for on this model?

I would weld new shanks on. Worn shanks won't hold teeth and I'm not sure they would be worth building up. They may still drop teeth after you spend hours and hours working on them. Aftermarket shanks are cheap, mine cost less than the teeth. Welding them on isn't too big a deal, certainly not...

    D7R and D7R XR Differences

I did a quick check on machinery trader and found 49 D7R XR and 1 D7R XL that was doubtful that it was an XL. There were something like 90 D6R XL and no D6R XR listed. I'm curious as to why there would be no D7 XL's and lots of D6 XL's. Same with the XR's. It's something I've noticed before...

root plow idea on d8k for stump removal

My vote is for this. I have been considering building one. As an added bonus, when it is not in use you can turn it over and have a swweeeeet tail fin for your dozer.

D9G or D9H - What do you recommend?

All the factors you listed are reasons limiting the size of a machine someone may want to buy. They don't apply in your case. The only thing I see that would limit the size of machine you would want is how much production you need. I wouldn't look at anything smaller that an 80,000 lb. machine...

D9G or D9H - What do you recommend?

I don't think you need to go to another forum to get educated about excavators. Most of the people commenting here are very knowledgeable on them as well. Yes they are classed by weight of the machine, and just like anything, bigger is better. A quick coupler allows you to change attachments...

D9G or D9H - What do you recommend?

I would get an excavator with a quick coupler and switch from ripper to bucket. Those bucket mounted rippers are a joke. A coupler wouldn't add much to the purchase price of a hoe and a ripper tooth costs about 3 or 4 thousand. Ripping with a hoe may not be as productive as a large dozer, but...

    Cat d8l

I'm not sure a d8l would be a cost effective machine to run in that small of a cut.

    D7H engine making oil

Had a d7g that had trans oil getting into the engine through the rear main. Is your transmission losing oil?

    Aftermarket torque converters?

That and they use inferior material and manufacturing processes.

    Aftermarket torque converters?

I'm with Nige. In my experience cheap parts are cheap for a reason.

    What kind of seat covers?

D9G or D9H - What do you recommend?

If you find a particular machine you are interested in, your Cat PSR can run a check on the serial# and provide what history is available in Cat's system. If repairs have been done by Cat they will show up which may give some clue on the component history.

D9G or D9H - What do you recommend?

As far as fair market value, that is really tricky. It depends on the condition of the machine. I suggest going and physically viewing as many machines as you can. Go see some really high priced units and some bargain basement junk. You'll start to see the difference. I think in your case, the...

D9G or D9H - What do you recommend?

I would be dubious of repairs mentioned in their ads without documentation, maybe even then. I think an engine or transmission should be good for 12-15 thousand hours.

    case cx210 engine pulls down

I think Gary Hoff wants you to do a test by stalling each track to narrow down possible problems. I believe each pump is dedicated to a track. I
