Air Brakes for Under CDL Vehicles

Yes... the C in CDL is for commercial. Somebody towing their toy hauler technically needs a non-commercial class A. Likewise, somebody driving one of those big bus-like RVs needs a non-commercial class B. http://www.dmv.state.pa.us/driverLicensePhotoIDCenter/license_classes.shtml...

    CDL/Truck Question

It all depends on what you want to do...while it's true that there are probably lots of people who come out of driving schools and are not good drivers, they have the piece of paper that says they went. If you are looking at an OTR driving career, many, many, many (dare I say "most") companies...

    What is this?

These things are sure finding their way around the internet. This is about the 3rd time in the last few weeks that I have seen somebody ask about them. For what it's worth, I came across a picture of a more modern version: http://www.fas.org/nuke/guide/usa/icbm/Image026.jpg Joe

Transport cost for skid steer ?

Your best bet would be to find somone who would put it on a stepdeck or a flatbed as an LTL. My guess would be somewhere aroud $1/mile, maybe a little more as an LTL. Straight flatbed or stepdeck freight with it being the only thing on the deck, I would expect it to be $2.25-$250 or more...

    you gotta watch this!!!

I had the same thing happen trying to load the skidsteer on a downhill slope, but instead of just pushing on through, and bringing things to a screeching halt, I put somebody in the truck to hold it with the front brakes. Just goes to show that it doesn't take big equipment to get yourself...

My first stop by the DOT...

Dwan is correct. Initially he didn't ask for my medical card, but once he saw that the GVWR of the truck was 11000, he asked for it. I knew I needed it... I knew it was expired... I didn't think I would get caught... I was wrong. Also, in response to some of the other comments in...

My first stop by the DOT...

Haven't posted much lately since not much has been happening...until last week. I guess I'm now in the club...I had my first stop by the DOT . I was moving my skidsteer to a job on Friday evening (Bobcat S175 on a 9999 GVW trailer being pulled by a Chevy 1-ton) so I could start...

    Semi tractor and gooseneck

Seabiscuit, Biggest issue is that the tractor's rear suspension is designed to carry heavy loads. This makes for a stiff ride when pulling lighter trailers like campers, race car haulers, etc.. This stiffer ride puts a lot of wear and tear on the trailer. The solution is to install a...

    Construction laser set-up

Another thing to keep in mind is that you want to set up your laser so that the sensor will be able to "see" it from anywhere in the area where you're working. These are line-of-sight devices, so if you set your laser up in a location where the receiver can't see it due to obstacles (spoil...

    Job I will never forget

Very good advice... Just read a story last week on another forum from an O/O OTR driver leased on to one of the national moving companies. Got in a minor fender bender with a car where the other driver was clearly at fault. He gave the other driver a piece of his mind, and a few days later...

    Fine/ rough dozer grade

Jmac, This would be my advice as well (us engineers all think alike...:) ). Does your contract state what "rough" grade is? If not, probably worth adding. Take care...

    Off-road vs. on-road fuel

Somebody once told me there's no sunch thing as a dumb question, so here goes... I have been running "off-road" fuel in my 2006 Bobcat S175 since I got it. This weekend when I went to pick up some fuel, there's now a big sign on the pump that says something like "High Sulfer - home heating...

Is this a good deal (Hino)

The only difference between the two is that you will need a CDL to drive the 33k truck. The cost of registration and insurance will also be higher due to the increased weight. The 26k truck is still considered a commercial vehicle and will need DOT numbers. Once you have the DOT numbers...
