    Motor-Grading Techniques

Maybe I misread the post by Randy Krieg where he talked about turning the blade around a greasing the circle. Am I wrong or was he talking about a different area of the machine?

    Motor-Grading Techniques

I was reading through this thread and have been trying some of the techniques talked about and they have been working for me. I'm a Asphalt Paving Foreman by trade but work is a little slow right now and I have been learning to operate a Motor Grader. I wanted to grease the blade circle on the...

What are all the things you do with a grader?

This is a great thread. Tomorrow is my first day on a grader. I am a Paving Foreman but it is slow right now and with my understanding of the electronics we use they think I will be able to pick up the GPS and the Cat "M" machine.

Tracks or Tires in North Carolina

What type of Screeds and Pavers are used the most in North Carolina. Do contractors use the Carlson Type extendable or is the Wedge lock still used?

    What Asphalt Boots?

They are great boots so far. Get a size bigger than you normally wear they seem to run on the small side. I ordered them from Total Relief Footwear in Texas. Good luck and I hope he likes them.

    What Asphalt Boots?

I really like the boots except for the fact that they were supposed to be sized like the Red Wings. I wear a 10.5 wide in Red Wings so that is what I ordered. They are about a half size small but the right width. A friend of mine is going to buy these boots and I will order the size 11 and all...

    What Asphalt Boots?

The boots came in yesterday via UPS and right out of the box I noticed they seem to be very high quality. I will wear them over the weekend so they can loosen up a bit and Tuesday will wear them at work for the first time. I will report back with a detailed review.

    Vogele Vision Paver

Our paver has had massive computer/electrical issues. The dealer is replacing the entire operators console and the ECM.

    What Asphalt Boots?

I am in the process of ordering the COFRA Asphalt boots. They look pretty good on the internet, so I am willing to be a guinea pig and order a pair sight unseen. Wish me luck.

    Too cold to lay asphalt?

Down here it has to be 45 and rising for less than 2" and Engineers discretion for depths above 2"

Any tips for someone new to the paving business?

I should have said that at least you won't have to deal with paying prevailing wage for the driveways given to you by the big company

Any tips for someone new to the paving business?

I'm sorry you are in NC and not NY I must have read your location wrong. At least you will not have to deal with the Right to Work stuff.

Any tips for someone new to the paving business?

I would suggest that you work for a small outfit for a full paving season before buying the whole so called shooting match. I see that your location is NY that means you are in a "right to work" state IIRC. This will put you at a disadvantage unless you don't mind paying UNION wages to do the...

    Vogele Vision Paver

A wedge lock screed does not have screeds on the gates it has strike-offs only. And if you pave over 12 feet on a mainline you have to bolt on screed extensions because the gates when run out have almost no compaction capability.

    Vogele Vision Paver

If you like all the switches on the IR/Blaw-know pagers you won't like this paver. On the other hand if you like new technology you will love this machine. The screed extensions are heated if thats what you mean. They are bolt on extensions but not as bulky as the extensions for the Road-Tec or...

Why does it show the link and not the picture?

    Vogele Vision Paver

This is our new paver and so far it has performed very well. I am a huge fan of Carlson Screeds but this Wedge-Lock is changing my view on this type of screed.

    Demo Roadtec RP195

I have no idea how much it costs to ship but I would assume Vogele eats most of the cost to compete in the US market. The coolest feature is the operators counsel. It gives the spread rate among a whole host of other things.
