    Excavator lack of power- hydraulic issue or engine?

    well if it stalled the hydraulics are fine, maybe even to much pressure. i would look at the engine.

    what was left of them looked like thrust bearings:beatsme it was on the crank, 3rd journal from the back i believe

    well since it was a rental machine they ordered a complete engine and i believe it was around the $11,000 mark....

    since perkins is now cat you could go there to. i just pulled a 4.4 perkins out of a telehandler that had spun the thrust bearing with 1800 hours on it.

    sounds like multiple things could be wrong. one thing to make sure your not losing fuel prime to the pump. two, did they put new injectors in anytime recently? if it runs fine after it starts and no strange smoke i would not think its injection timing.
