I’d check the drive housing for oil. To Crane Operators point…..if it’s cold, any water will lock her up. I pulled the drain plug on the drive housing (just behind the Cab, on the bottom of housing)…..and at least 2 quarts of water came out! Fill it back up to the fill plug (on side of... -

I’ve had the same issue since day one. It is slow (and I’ve had both internal boom cylinders rebuilt, new Brass guides, slide bearings). I believe it has something to do with the fluid volume…..just not designed for “quick” movement. Contractors out of Houston is the way to go….they have... -

Ford 300 industrial velocity governors
The governor (called a Hoof Governor) is controlled by air speed…..it can be adjusted with a screw on top. I’ve had hit or miss luck with them (the internal spring can be shot/rusted or gummed up). I recently added an electronic RPM rev limiter on an Industrial Ford 1.6L….works like a charm...- BobCatBob

Love it! Ospho will become your friend (rust converter).....these old iron beauties just need TLC, elbow grease and some new parts. How’s the hydraulic cylinders (outriggers)....? Brakes on drums ok? -

When I rebuilt the Galion, Contractors Crane out of Houston had OEM wedges.....I believe the have P&H wedges as well if they’re not universal. p.s. I originally considered a P&H 20 ton off the old Gov Liquidators auction site, would love to see your rebuild. -

Hi Crane Op Exactly! It’s a few bucks and some sweat to replace. The hardest part is getting the hose around the rear slave pulley (getting the hose fittings through the keepers on the pulley....very hard not to kink the hose).....then lining up the fittings to the manifold connections... -

Had a doozy with a Gleason Reel letting go! I was booming in sections 3&4.....Didn’t notice the Gleason Reel let go.....about 1/2 of both hoses got caught up in the boom.....made a real mess! I was able to install a new reel, new hose.......but still a “leak”. Upon inspection on the back... -

Took day off.....and by chance, this pulled up! They’re installing a “Pergala” in my neighbors back yard. Operator was really cool....I think he could tell I’m an “enthusiast” after sharing pics of the Galion. Oh.....got Old Glory up for the 4th.....built a 20ft jib to hold the 10x15... -

ichudov.....I watch “Gold Rush” weekly wishing I had the time and wealth to do what Tony Beets is doing with that Dredge (using a couple RT cranes for dismantling). I’ve changed my mind....I’m going to your yard to play! That is one cool project! -

Hi TD! Yes, it’s a Ford Industrial 300. They’re tanks! It’s just like the Ford F100-F150 engine of yesteryear, but it’s all forged inside, thicker casting, heavier piston rings, etc. It needed a new water pump....quote was $800 for an OEM! Holy jumpin jimminy....that’s a lot for a water...
