    My CAT 426 Project

I'd put the chain further back on the fork when lifting that much weight. That fork looks like it's read to give up!

This will be an interesting thread moving forward......

This so true. We plowed a huge mall. 42 acres of parking lot. We used 4x4 dumps with wings and 4 to 8 yard payloaders with 18" push boxes. The most experienced operators were a pain in my butt. We had a system and they always had a better way or just did what even they wanted. One of the...

A few projects I have done recently

We had this happen twice. First time all the footings and piers were installed. Then they decide the entire building needs 4' of fill removed. Got paid but a real pain in the butt. Second one the Geo report shows no problems. We strip the building area . We then find black dirt under the top...

503L front spindle problems looking for suggestions

Seems to me the roll pin will stop the washers from turning. Which will stop the bolt from loosening. You don't need a special bolt just another washer without a hole to keep the pin in place.

We used that one time. Much lighter than carrying woven fabric around. Kept getting my fingers caught in the hole when rolling out. Ouch.

That pipe sure seems like overkill for a basic sewer line. Any reason why it was used?

    Hough 930

The old Houghs were good machines. Very very hard to get parts to get parts 20 years ago. Almost impossible now. We had a guy that specialized in Hough parts. He gave up on them about 15 years ago.

    Anyone here rent equipment?

Every time we rented something out it came back with something broken. Lending to friends is always trouble.

    Strange buyer's

My dad did that all the time. The stuff he couldn't get his price for usually turned to junk. He'd just let it rot. When he passed we had to scrap most of it.

New member - advice on used backhoe

Look for a driveshaft to the front wheels.

    Giving warranty on used equipment

I think you're making to big a deal moving this thing. Back the trucks tailgate to tailgate. Put down some thinner plywood or metal across the tailgates and roll it across. Use a 2X4 to pry it and not damage the beds. It's only 400# so 100# on each wheel. Tailgates will hold it up just fine...

Front Backhoe tires. What brands are good / bad?

I'm a retired snowplow contractor in Buffalo NY. All my trucks, and loaders sat in snow and ice all winter. Never affected the tires. The sun is what causes dry rot .

    Completely new at this :/

This makes so much sense and is obvious to me. Looks like a swale already that just needs minimal work. Are we missing something? why dig though a hill?
