    TD8-E Fuel System Problem Fixed

Believe it or not, my dozer doesn't have a lift pump. Dave, the owner of a rental company who has several Dressers, came out tonight to look at it. I borrowed a portable air compressor from my customer. Dave disconnected the fuel line at the filters and pushed air pressure back down the line...

    Fuel System Problem

Dressta1, you are right - the screw is hollow. But there is no screen inside of it. I'll look on the filter housing where the fitting screws on.

    Fuel System Problem

Mine has a hole drilled through it to allow fuel into the ring but the bolt is not hollow. There is no screen, just the hole.

    Fuel System Problem

John, I have 2 fuel filters side by side on the left side of the engine toward the front. They are above the injector pump. Each looks like a car oil filter except they are smaller in diameter and require a smaller filter wrench. I pulled the floor pans and seat so I could follow the fuel...

    Fuel System Problem

Yes it is a Bosch. But it doesn't have a hand primer. A local mechanic mentioned that too but there isn't one. It's at a job site. Getting compressed air isn't really an option. Thanks

    Fuel System Problem

One more thing - when I open the vent screws on top of the filter (both of them) no fuel escapes as it should.

    Fuel System Problem

I forgot to mention - yesterday it ran for half an hour until I shut it down. But it would rev up then almost die. It repeated this pattern the entire time it ran, except for the first 30 seconds.. Dan

    Fuel System Problem

My 1980 TD8-E is acting up. It has eratic RPM's and acts like it is running out of fuel. There is plenty in the tank. It will run at half throttle but revs up then almost dies. Things I have done: Checked tank for debris - it is clean Cleaned air filters with air hose Changed both fuel...

Running Air Lines for a Trailer

The truck I bought has air brakes but I need to run lines to the rear for the trailer. I'd like to know what I need to look for and what's involved? Will I need a larger air tank than what came with the truck? It's an 89 Chev 2 ton. Thanks Dan

    Adding a pentle hitch

I need to add a pentle hitch to my truck. I'll be towing a 17,000 lb dozer on a tilt bed trailer. I read a thread on this where 3/4" plate was used. Do you think 1/2" plate is enough? Thanks Dan

    Fluid Sample Results TD8-E

chomium, aluminum, and water with antifreeze. The service manager said Low hours over 30 years developed rust on the inside of the case and testing is probably picking up on that. Also some oils have chemicals similar to antifreeze that can cause a hit for antifreeze leading thenm to think it...

    Fluid Sample Results TD8-E

This has been such a hassle that I don't think I could explain it without it sounding like complaining. So I'm going to the bottom line. After receiving a horible fluid report I took the filter to my mechanic as well as the service manager at NC Machine. There were a few very small filings...

Seat wear indicates 1200 hours, or more?

My 1980 TD8 was advertised to have 1350 hours. That's hard to believe but it was being sold by the original owner. And everything was consistant with low hours - The blade, UC, pads, feded original paint, good exhaust stack, AND upholstery. There were no cracks or rips in the seat or arm rest...

    Fluid Samples TD8-E

Yesterday I got a call from the lab and was told my engine is falling apart and that I shouldn't run it. I immediately called my mechanic who has been working on dozers for 35 years. He told me if I brought him the oil filter he could tell if there was a problem or not. After cutting it open and...

Noise in Trans or Final 1980 TD8

A friend came over today who has dozer experience. He said he couldn't hear anything out of the ordinary. Friday I talked to a mechanic at Modern Machine. He related a story about one operator who said, after hundreds of hours on the same machine, that it sounded different and something was...

Noise in Trans or Final 1980 TD8

Thanks. You may have saved me a lot of heartache with that reply. My clutch pressure gauge is working now and reads about 50% on the gauge. If it sat too long the bearings could have started to rust. If a bearing is pitted and starting to go out will the fluid sample show it? I also...

Noise in Trans or Final 1980 TD8

The bad news is N.C Machine lost my samples. The good news is they offered to send their mechanic over Monday to take new ones. Dan

Noise in Trans or Final 1980 TD8

John, I did call the Seattle SOS lab direct. They said they never received the samples and they called Wasilla with that info. Wasilla said they sent them to Anchorage who was suppose to send on to Seattle. It's messed up but Wasilla is looking into it. Hopefully I'll know more tomorrow. Dan
