    Diagnostic tools

I prefer to use laptops over a diagnostic specialty tool. You can get a laptop with plenty of power and memory for around 400 dollars. I would make sure the software is XP Pro, many diagnostic software applications rely on IIS, which does not come with XP Home. As for software applications...

    Which motor would you prefer?

I would get something with a Cummins N14 in it. It is a very easy engine to work on.

    Three axle alingment

I now have a picture of the laser/bar and target we use. I also made a copy of the attacc plus sheet we use. This is of course all measured on a level shop floor after the truck has been driven straight foward at least three truck lengths. A measurement from the front spring to the inside rim...

    Three axle alingment

We use the ATTACC plus method to pre-check the alignment and to make the adjustments. In the video they show checking the thrust using the string method. We made a metal bar that fits against the front drive rim with a laser mounted to it and made a set of targets that hang on the front wheel...

    Changing from 11R 22.5 to 12R22.5 tires

11R 22.5 fit a 8.25, 7.50 12R 22.5 fit a 8.25, 9.00 We run them on the same rim in our fleet. What I would check if you are running a late model truck with an ECM is reprogramming the tire revs. You can get the tire revs from the tire manufacturer's data book.

    Alternator and Battery Quick Check

I just wanted to pass on some tool advice, these are tools we actually use in our fleet. I know this is not the best tool for checking your alternator and batteries. But if I don't have a multimeter with me this tool works great. Plug into a cigar lighter -Engine off - indicates battery...

    DOT---Dep't of Trouble

From what I read in transport topics. From June 2-4 72 hours CVSA, Police Officers including 10,000 federal, state and local inspectors in three nations will take part in Roadchecks. In those 3 days there will be 1,000 check points and roving patrols. Included in the check was UCR compliance.

wrenching on C series 8.3 Cummins

Honestly I don't remember if that was a common problem or not. The only thing I do remember was the line splitting from over torque on the fuel line nut. I even had several lines split in my own truck, 6.9 diesel in an 84 ford f250 from over torque. The fuel line nuts torque is 18 ft -lb. The...

    Sterling Eng lite on

Freightliner and Sterling used the same instrument clusters in alot of thier trucks, the ICU3. If you have a small 3 line LCD in the center of the cluster and a mode/reset button on the right side. You can read the fault code if it is active. If you have this cluster, when the light comes on use...

    clutch brake adjustment

Ours looks nothing like that. So the differance is that we are running the 10 speed in our fleet and don't need the air assist, we are also running the solo clutch.

    clutch brake adjustment

I have not seen any hydraulic over air. All the trucks we run are just hydraulic and no free play at the throwout, adjustment is made at the pedal so the driver feels what would normally be freeplay. You also stated what was one of my questions to bowtie"The clutch itself shoud be a self...

    clutch brake adjustment

Here is a link to an Eaton clutch service manual. You should only have to adjust the clutch and freeplay on your clutch. There is a check for clutch brake squeeze after you get everything adjusted using a .010" feeler gauge between the release bearing and the clutch brake, it should clamp and...

wrenching on C series 8.3 Cummins

The coupler is for the power steering pump to the compressor connection. The compressor is just gear driven off the cam gear. No need to worry about a coupler. However do worry about the timing of the compressor when it goes back on. The timing of the compressor is for engine balance. Not like...
