Which generation 580K is this?

Will it move in reverse?

Are the brakes stuck? does it act like it wants to go or do you think its the trans/shuttle??

Does it MOVE in reverse?? IF so, I would think the brakes are stuck.. Just my opinion../experience.. which aint worth a dam on transmission work.

We need you to check your fluids, phase 1 580k, raise your hood and remove the dipstick from the tube above the starter and check your fluid with the engine running with the F/R lever in neutral. Add TCH fluid or a good 303 oil. Phase 3 580k machines after S/N JJG002000, check fluid in the rear floorboard area between the seat post and backhoe control tower. May need to remove the plug in the floor to see the dipstick it uses a hy-tran plus fluid. You more than likely have a Phase 1 and those shuttles have some issues that can be addressed once we know what phase machine you have, have to check the fluid levels first.

I have a phase 1, 1990, and yesterday afternoon I put in forward and it went now it will not go in reverse.

When you try to move, does the engine rev freely or does it labor? Take the floorpan up and watch the driveshaft. What's it doing?

I thought a 1990 model, might have been a phase 3.

my serial before #is JJG002000, this is actually my dads backhoe, he just told me that when its in neutral the shaft spins and when he puts it in 2/3 and forward the shaft doesnt spin. we actually do not know what year it is, this is all new for us we just got a heck of a deal on this one. it had been sitting for three years outside.

If this situation comes & goes - it could be that the forward clutch pack has a broken belville washer & the broken pieces are jamming up the forward pack.
If it is still doing this can you change the 4 speed while in neutral, & not grate the gears? If so, the shuttle will need overhauling.
