I'm looking to purchase a 1" impact gun soon and would like some idea of what price range and brand for a good qualty but not necessarily high end impact. I see prices from $399 all the way up to around $1800. I don't hump tires for a living but would need one occasionally for track bolts cutting edges, etc. I seen a Chicago Pneu. 7782 on sale for $475 with 2140ft lbs. Is that a good deal and a good gun? If I could get some advice it would be appreciated.

I'm no expert by any means but I have used quite a few different 1" guns over the years. Personally I would look real hard at a Ingersoll Rand 2190T (Not 100% sure if that's the correct model # but it's close to that). A few months ago I was changing some track pads on a dozer using an older Blue Point 1" gun when a buddy of mine stopped by the shop. He happened to have his IR 2190T with him and had me try it out. Long story short my old heavy Blue Point gun was struggling a little but getting the job done removing the track bolts. Hooked up his IR gun and it almost effortlessly loosened the bolts. Needless to say I used his gun for the rest of them. IIRC he said he paid @ $700 for it. Like I said I'm no expert but it seemed like a good gun for the $$. Just my $.02

It's hard to beat IR as far as price and power. For track work I wouldn't get an extended anvil like the tire guys used. Kind of awkward and won't fit if you're doing bottom rollers. I've got several brands of 1" guns. I've trashed several brands. My best 1" extended anvil is an IR. My regular style 1" is a Sioux brand I bought on eBay for $125 and it's a hard hitting sob. I'd stay away from cheaper brands. IF they hit hard new they won't for long. A torque multiplier has its place but it certain situations it's hard to get everything in place like you want and keep it there. D6 and smaller a 1" will do everything you need assuming you have sufficient air supply and hose size.

Ive seen impacts spin bolts out that a torque multiplier will break also. Sometimes that hammering is what saves you. Not to mention its alot easier to pull the trigger that to set up a multiplier where it will stay

Good point Junkyard, that 6" anvil would be a pain with track bolts

IR top-of-line is Series 293, 2000ft lbs, weigh 22lbs and pricey eBay (new) $2,600.00. You need 90psi @ the impact wrench 1/2" hose minimum!

We use pistol grip (standard anvil) and d handle (standard and long anvil) all Chicago Pnuematic old school guns. You got to eat your wheaties to use them for any long length of time

I think Proto fairly recently came out with lightweight 1" guns that are pretty damn powerful. Might want to look at them.

Look into KE Tools or KET they are ugly, not at all modern looking or feeling. We had 3/4 & 1" guns from them. With a regular, common every shop hose in America 1/4" Milton coupler kicks like an absolute mule. Swap that out for a 1" hose with Kelley fittings and hang on.
These things were strong and long lived. The downside, they are ridiculously priced. You can get better pricing from fastenal than anyone else that I have found. Good luck in your decision.

I picked up off ebay, a used IR maybe a 285x $150 and figured its an IR, if it needs vanes or bearings it'll be easy to get parts. On the outside it looked like it rode around in Junkyard's service truck for a few decades. On the inside there was almost no wear of any kind and it works flawlessly, I use it less often than most, couple times a year and don't ask if its' hooked up to 100' of garden hose :)

I have to agree with a lot of the others. IR all the way. The last one I bought new I think was around $900 6 years ago. I did get a good buy on a Sunnex 1" extended anvil on E-bay. It was a new gun in the box and ended up paying $80 for it. I had never used that brand before but it works very well.

$475.00 for CP7782 would be IMO a good price! D-handle okay for track pads and occasional cutting edges. Don't buy a extended anvil like the CP7782-6; harder to use on cutting edges...Scrapers and Dozers!

Appreciate all the advice guys. I might have to wait a bit to buy one while I make a couple other higher priority purchases. I'll wait a little longer and see what kind of work demand there is this summer before I lay out all that cash. I just ordered an upgraded compressor and extra storage tanks so I can power a 1" gun when I get it.

I have had a bunch of IR guns over the years, when the last one wore out I bought a Bluepoint 1" just because it was right there at the time. Pricey, but that thing will turn stuff you won't believe. JMO. The specs said 3000 lb ft ultimate torque... I believe it.
