I don't know anything about bulldozers

    I think it’s a 14A. Track frame is too long for a 9.

    Cat 289d torsion axles

I’ve had new machines where one of each pair won’t accept grease. I think it’s how tthe weight sirs on the greaseway. Sometimes lifting the machine so the frames hang will allow the grease in. One machine, a 259, the one of each pair never took grease but putting plenty in the other one seemed...

No Paul, same switch does both.

Just to throw in, in case I’ve missed it, but have you checked the park brake/hydraulic lock switch is okay? Nige, as ever, you’re a diamond for the support you give people on here.

    CTL Final Drive Oil Analysis

No, never had a motor failure. We do the oil and filter changes on the button. Mind you, drive hoses are a constant pain, done every single one at least once.

    CTL Final Drive Oil Analysis

I’ve only worked on Cat CTL’s, but the fleet of six259/289/299’s I’ve looked after has totalled some 30,000 hrs. The Advise about changing the final oil at the same time as the engine oil is spot on, and every oil change I’ve performed the oil has been filthy. However, two finals out of twelve...

    D6K System One Undercarriage

I’ve run two 963’s with S1 and they seem a good match for that type of machine. Probably because in most applications they aren’t pushing for the same % of time as a dozer, and are on narrow shoes. That‘s my humble opinion, anyway.

    D6K System One Undercarriage

I‘ve just found this thread, the only detail about application for the OP’s machine was “light applications”. I’m a bit mystified as we’ve run machines on test, one that’s done heavy work including very abrasive granite sand and it’s taken 7000 hrs to kill the tracks. One machine I know of on...

This will be an interesting thread moving forward......

Done this same job, but not on a roller. If you can get underneath I think you can get three of the four with ratchet and extensions. Have you tried a Perkins dealer for the turbo parts? That’s a Perkins and the bolts and gaskets are all the same across the range, just different p/n’s.

Track Loader to clear trees? Pros/Cons?

X 5 or 6 on the track loader. I’ve done a bit with a 963 with 4 in 1 and rippers and on small to medium trees I can’t see a quicker way, as long as you can pile and burn.

Drilling holes oversize in track shoes

I’d go a boron drill if the cost isn’t too much. Whatever you try keep it cool, even running a hose while drilling. Sound crude but it’s heat that kills most cutters and drills.

the largest crawler loaders in comparison caterpillar 983, komatsu D155S strengths defects character

When you dig it’s amazing how many companies had a go, if briefly, with rear engines hystats. O&K, Poclain, JCB, Cat, Dresser (think IH were nearly there before the buy-out), Liebherr, Deere. Hough were the daddies with their rear-engines mechanical drive. Apparently Cat bought one of the first...

the largest crawler loaders in comparison caterpillar 983, komatsu D155S strengths defects character

Believe it or not, they were hard work to operate, certainly compared to a power shift Cat. Someone will correct me if I’m Wrong but I think the 110 had a Perkins 4236 and the 112 had a 6354.

    Ever blade backwards?

X2 on the thumbs, Oz, I learned that day one on a Farmall M in the 1970’s. one outfit I worked for in the 90’s had a grader operator on a 12H who in the morning couldn’t hit a cow’s arse with a shovel, let alone hit grade. After 11 when the pub over the way had opened, two quick pints and he...

    Cmark's random photo thread

Excellent thread, Cmark. I’ve just come back after over a year - no reason, just kept forgetting to tune in. Going back a bit we recently bought a 6v-8020 specifically to strip CTL finals. There’s a nut in there needs torquing to around 3400Nm. A regular thing for us is counterweight removal and...
