    Falling Scrap Iron prices

I think DMiller is right on that, I've worked tearing stuff apart only to learn someone would give three times the money for it whole. If you have time that's the way I would go, you can always salvage them later.

    Falling Scrap Iron prices

Got 140 ton for shred at Mexico Mo., all the other scrap yards are paying around 110 close to me. Had a farm I was cleaning up for a guy and he gave all the scrap to me. Worked great since I already had equipment there to load it.

    Dump box floor

I have 500 dollars in this one after I sold the bed it was in. Just got lucky, was going to put a new floor in till I remembered it. You could do a wood overlay to get by depending on what you haul.

    Dump box floor

I did a plastic liner floor in mine. It was thin and beat. Just happened to have a bed that had one I had bought.

Suggestions for first heavy equipment purchase

That area is tough on machines. It will tear any machine up. I'd probably shy away from rubber tracks, maybe a tire machine with steel tracks on the tires. I've worked south of the Missouri river a few times and it's a whole different world than the mostly dirt I work in. I know of contractors...

    963 drive motor

It appears the end plate on one of my drive motors is seeping. Before I take it off is there anything I need to be worried about flying out of it and is it oringed or a gasket sealing this? This is a early 21Z serial number machine. Thanks

freightliner fc80 with cummins 5.9 engine...will it tow?

The 5.9 is real easy to bump power on. First thing would be an exhaust temp. It's amazing what some timing, fuel and higher governor speed does for them. 8.3 or mechanical dt would be my first choices but I had a tandem dump once with a 3208 cat that surprised me how good it pulled. I'm all for...

    Track pad bolts

Got them all loose and decided to use my Milwaukee impact to spin them out. It was all it could do to turn most of them so I'm guessing the rust build up was half the load breaking them loose. The one I over tightened broke down by the nut. The ones that broke trying to loosen them broke the...

    Track pad bolts

Update I got one side in the garage this morning. I'm working by myself so lining up the socket on the bolt is a little tough as my eyes aren't the greatest and the bolt is the same color as the track. I got 28 pads loose before I ruined the socket. Seven broke and I had to get off the machine...

    Track pad bolts

My older beat up 973 I use in the brush came out of a rock quarry. The pads are shot, maybe a half inch of cleat but it's great when it's dry. Rails aren't great either and it has probably half dozen pads loose. They were loose when I got it. If the rails were better than 50 percent I would have...

    Track pad bolts

No it's a lot easier just pushing a toggle and they come loose. I can set this on a bolt and have it loose or broke in a few seconds. When I get them in the shop on the solid flat surface it will go fast. I just thought a dirt cheap torque amplifier would intrigue a few people. I haven't priced...

    Track pad bolts

I'm just looking for the easiest way to get them out. Took maybe a half hour to make the adapter out of stuff I had laying around. We spent that much time getting one bolt out with the torch and impact. Sure is easy just pushing a button to get them loose plus you have the weight of the machine...

    Track pad bolts

I figured out how to get them out without cutting. They either come loose or break. I made myself an ACME adapter kit to hook a one inch drive socket on the hydraulic auger on my skid steer. Started with a 1 1/8 deep well impact socket from harbor freight as that's all I had to fit them...

    Track pad bolts

Probably going to cut the nuts. Bought it for the motor and thought while I had it in the shop I'd get the pads off. Wanting to use the 22 inch pads on the 963 I'm putting the motor in. Guess I'll drag it to the bone yard and just pull the rails to cut the bolts in the shop when weather shuts me...

    Track pad bolts

I bought a dead 963 with real good 22 inch double grouser pads. Being the tight ass I am I'd like to try and save the track bolts as they are in real good shape. My inch impact wouldn't budge them. I did heat one nut red hot and got it loose. Has anyone used an induction heater on these to get...
