    john deere 648d

    typically on john deere skidders the transmission oil is also the hydraulic oil, it doesn't have a separate reservoir. the rear diff uses the same type of oil, but on the skidders I was around it has its own separate oil.

    on john deere skidders there is a differential lock that can be engaged that will cause a grinding type noise when turning. on the older skidders I think the pedal was on the left kind of back by the seat where you kick it with your boot heel to engage it.

    John Deere power unit fuel issue. Pump?

    on the side of the injector pump there should be an inspection plate with two bolts in it. remove it and turn engine to tdc number one and see if there are two short lines showing. if there isn't the injector pump is bad
