    I've had 3306s that had this happen in 100 degree weather and I just fixed the pump and changed the oil and rolled on...your filter looks good to me.

    Shock loading would be another issue, people tend to hit immovable objects in the subgrade from time to time...stumps, rocks, manholes or curbs plowing snow...chip a tooth and then that piece breaks another, plus operator abuse.

    I've had mine off my D4 7U before...I think service manual advises to pry or drive it into the trans housing. Is there a small hole in the frame there to get a punch in to drive it in?
