    Looking at my first Lull

Rent. Unless its going to be a 100 hours a year. The cost you'll spend in blown hoses and the usual will pay for a rental when you need one. or a boom truck is cheaper if you can do the work with that. No transport cost, Really depends on what your doing with it?

rumor about a new cat tool carrier

What is a tool carrier? I know the laws are changing about hositing from a forklift. I usually hang a 3/4 cable around the tilt pin of my GEHL, my favorite lift, I guess I can't do that anymore. How about a 3/4 over the lifting bar? I hope manufactures make a hook without an attachment

Pay attention to whats around you..

Electricity. Falls. Struck by. Caught inbetween. These are known killers in construction.

union, non-union and self employed poll

I see it a different way. I feel the unions keep wages fare, without them I think many trades would be paid less. As for the bennys, Im always surprised by carpenters and labor who have none. I support my brothers, but I also support my fellow operators the right to choose.

union, non-union and self employed poll

I know the union thing is sensitive here, but some of us work in strong union states and others don't. I say yes, if you don't, thats okay with me.

union, non-union and self employed poll

IUOE Local 302 I don't know how I could be a crane operator without my union. Non-union in my region makes 30 less an hour with no benes

    Are unions really evil?

The median weekly earnings for construction workers in the U.S. last year was $1,000 for union members and just $624 for non-union workers, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. It especially pays if you're a UNION Operating Engineer! Members of the International Union of...

Crane operator wages in your area

The highest rate applies for the whole day. Usually a contractor won't change your scale at all. For example, I usually operate a tower, but if I go run a forklift or elevator for a few weeks between cranes I still get paid my tower scale. I think its a lot of work for payroll to change your...

Crane operator wages in your area

You should see the breakdown for dirt equipment, wow! I'd rather see that than many other trades, where everyone is paid the same no matter what you do. 302 covers Alaska too, the rates might vary.

    Little Purple Bag

On a daily basis, many loads show up that are not on my schedule. Usually, it is not a big deal. However, if the schedule is full, your material will be turned away for another day. Especially when concrete gets priority over everything else. A little lubrication never hurt anyone...

    Little Purple Bag

Yesterday, the electricians were begging for some hook time. All they needed was 20-30 minutes to fly some cable spools to the roof. They weren't on the crane schedule and nobody wanted to give up the hook. Many hours into the day I found time to sneak the hook away and help them out. At the end...
