Case 580c leaking by brakes

I am a fairly new owner of a 77 case 580c. It is in very good shape overall and was well maintained. I just got it out after sitting for the winter and noticed that it's leaking gear lube out of what my manual calls the "differential bearing carrier" on both sides. This is located just in front of the axles. The left side is very dirty coming out and the right side not as much. I think it's leaking out around the brakes. The other thing I noticed is that it only leaks when I'm running the machine. If it sits it stops after 10-15 minutes. After stopping it will leak out a puddle about 3-4 inches in diameter within a few minutes.

So my quesions are:

Is there a common problem of leaking here?
What's involved with fixing it?
Are the brakes dry or wet brakes?

I don,t remember this being much of a problem on the 580b,c,d,e and k (same transaxle). The brakes are dry. Do one side at a time as the brakes ride on the differential side gears. Remove the brake hose and emergency brake linkage on the left side. Remove 2 nuts and 2 bolts at each corner of the brake housing and slide the housing off. Mark the brake disk assembly and slide it off. Remove the differential bearing housing from the transaxle. I believe it has 2 sloted screws holding it in place and pry it off. Be carefull there are shims that set the backlash at the ring and pinion so don't bend them and keep them clean. There is an o-ring and a oil seal that get replaced. Shine the shaft that the seal rides on and reassemble. On the right side is the differential lock once you remove the extra parts it is basically the same other than an extra seal between the output shaft and the side gear. If this is leaking I'm not sure if there is enough room to slide the side gear off with the transaxle in the machine. It has been 10+ years since i worked on one and usually did this with the transaxle removed to change the ring and pinion. The reason why it only leaks while moving is the oil gets slung up on the sides of the case where it runs down to a channel to the bearings. a service manual would serve you well and is worth the money. Let me know how you make out.

I put some lucus in to get me by and man did that stuff work. I'll tear into it this next winter when I'm not using it.

Hi, I got the same problem with My 580D 1983, I change the seal and the O ring and put back everything, after moving the machine I notice it was leaking oil by the brake ( R.H. So I took off again the break and the bearing carrier change the seal again ( make sur this time the seal was well in place) put back everything in place. As soon as I moved it I notice some leakage again!!!. Their is certenly a trick to put back that bearing carrier in place ???

the problem was, at the dealer thay push to far the seal and the gear war dammaging the rubber so, i install it my sell and noe since 2 years I have no problem.
