Hi i am new to this site. Has anyone heard about changes to the super single steerable pusher axles on tractor in california?i heard they were gonna derate the maximum allowable weight(20,000). David collins hasnt got back to me yet.

^Are you talking about a 10wheeler with a drop axle in the middle? With Ca Bridge law I was told it was only good for 2000lb not 12000 or 20000lbs with the superdumps they have the length for the 4th axle to legal 12000lbs

no sir,I pull california 13 axle trailer.buying new truck and wanted to get a steerable super single pusher axle.was told there might be some new changes to law on super singles?my truck now has standard 4 tire pusher axle and i get 60,000 on drivers.california requires equal air pressure in all 3 axles ..makes for difficult steering ...unfortunately people that write these laws have never been in a truck.

^Sorry that is out of my legue,the CHP here verys so much with the commercial officers.66000lbs (20k-34k-12k) is legal for superdump but I've been told by them 67500 is legal & we have guys buying out of state tri axle & 7 axle dumps caring 20 & 25 ton loads here not getting shutdown. There is too much confusing too get a straight answer. How long of a wheelbase is Caltrans calling for to have a 20k pusher? Good luck.

Ca allows 20000 on the front axle
If it is a ten wheeler with a pusher and IF the axle spacing allowed 20 K a pusher almost always removes legal weight off the front axle. So you may not gain what you think

The 4th axle is legal with as much as 20K but the weight distribution on a super will limit it to 12K to 13.5K. This is because a trailing axle transfers a substantial amount of weight to the front axle causing it to be over the 20K limit

As far as I know as long as you have the tire rating and spacing on the tridem (10' spread or 60" spacing) and the pusher axle is plumbed into the leveling valve of the drive axles, AND the control to lift the pusher if applicable is outside the cab then it is legal for 20,000# of the 60,000# allowed on that group. Now you can get a 315/80R/22.5" tire rated for 20,000# for the pair, but CalTrans could start going by tire width which depending on how many pounds per inch of tread width you may need 425 or even 445/65R/22.5" tires.
