I got a new service truck about a month ago, 2012 International WorkStar (7400) w/ Maxxforce DT/ 6 speed.
Today on the way to a job with less than 1800 miles, the yellow warning light/warn engine shown on display started coming on, along w/ the engine fan and a significant loss of power:Banghead. The fan would only come on when the warning light was on and vice-versa. It was running at 185F so no reason for it to come on in the first place.

Truck seems to be running fine otherwise. The closest dealer is about an hour and a half away and things are way too busy for the bossman to let me take it there, even if it is warranty. Just want some insight on where to look, hopefully it's an easy fix. Thanks in advance.:usa:notworthy

Everything on that engine is controlled by sensors and the ECU. Although gauge may be saying 185F, are you certain that's what the engine temp is?

Being a 2012, and just 1,800 miles on it, I don't care how busy it is...it needs to go back to the dealer. If there is, in fact, something wrong and engine temp is up, it needs to be repaired without delay or you could kill your warranty.

When that light comes on and it loses power that sounds like what a friend of mine's truck does.... Sounds like that exhaust flush or burn system is coming on... Not sure exactly what it is called I like the older trucks before all the emission standards started coming out.

The temp is definately correct via IR gun.

I'm with you on taking it back to the dealer, but it's the company's truck. I'm just a pawn.:D

It's def not going into regen, some call it the afterburner. It's only come on twice since I've had it, both during periods of extended idling.

I accidentally figured out how to get the fault codes from the dash, I'll post em later

No, it isn't. There is a DPF light that comes on when it goes into regen. It has regen-ed before and this wasn't it.

I've heard nothing but bad new about the new workstars (navistar engines). I currently drive a 2006 Workstar 7600 with a cummins ISM engine and that truck runs like an OX!!! I've had it for 2 years and the only major problems i've experienced with it was a blown turbo. We lease all of our trucks and with that my workstar will be traded in within a month:Banghead. Im really not looking forward to the new workstar but I will take that over a p.o.s. durastar tandem.

Does the truck sit and idle a lot? Does it ever get to open up and run? For the regen to work effectively the truck needs to run 45+ mph for at least 30 minutes.. Just because your regen light isnt coming on doesnt mean its not regening. Those codes you gave are generic codes if your engine light has come on there may be several codes you cant pull but the dealer can my recommendations would be get it to the shop asap sounds like a clogged dpf to me but thats just a guess hard to diagnose without having the truck hooked to the computer.

i would have to agree with farmrod. sounds like its not completeing regens and dpf getting plugged. most manufacturers have a point where you HAVE TO use the service software and force regen after its gone too long. thats IF you dont have to replace stuff.

Beto,

On here the rule is to use english because that's what the majority of us speak/read.

I have run your post through a translator and will repost for you.

warn engine

Maybe the oil pressure sensor is faulty or has a bad contact, I recommend you check it (remove - clean and / or replace). On the other hand, it would be advisable to wash the truck, do not use direct water jet on electronic instruments, mainly those close to the floor, next to the clutch and accelerator pedals, because with a little water to among them, cause a variety of problems, including the one you have, so check them out too.
Greetings and I hope you serve the comments.

On another note, the new Internationals do have a recall on them because of the regen systems. Take them in and get them checked! Our newest truck 2011 tried to burn itself down last week because of the faulty systems.

I know this is way old but sounds like you have a bad ground or a short.
