My Bobcat dealer said Scat Trac were on the bottom of the totem pole. Rented a Scat Trac mini-x last year to dig a trench and it wasn't too bad, only one I've used though.

I tink that they are too tipsy.I heard that volvo bought one of them out and was gonna design there own but the ones i have seen look just a bad as the brand they bought.I'm not putting the quality of it but how it rides does not have long wheel base and has arch typ lift verses vertical.. I think volvo did a grat job on the backhoe from what i see have not driven one yet. would of thought the same for the skid steer.

Volvo bought there design and thats what they are using.i read about it last night.i also called the volvo dealer near me and they said "there scat traks painted yellow"

i guess thats why i have seen alot of them for sale around here under 1200 hours.

a family friend has one (Scat Trak) for his paving company and he told me today for the price it was worth it.the last time i talked to him he had everything but skid steers in his line up and that was 4 years ago.

thanks for all your help guys

I have rented one twice. it worked pretty good but it was real tippy. I was told they were made by the company that made cesna airplanes before they went out of business (scat track, not cesna). some of the machines had perkins diesels which was supposed to be good for cost of parts

hi not that i`m an expert, but i do know a bit about scat trak`s, i own 2 at the moment....
scat track , i belive was first manufactured by koering construction equipment, a brand noted for toughness and durability. When i bought my first scat (new 97) it was then owned by a company call trak international, trak was then aquired by a company called compact technologies, wich was a part of a company called omni quip, wich was owned by textron. besides skid steer loaders, they also sold sky track and lull loaders. In 2001 volvo bought the skid steer loader line, and is now marketing their own version, with some improvements. In 2003 jlg industries bought the sky track and lull product lines.
While scat has never been in the forefront of skid steer sales , or coming up with new innovative designs, they are exceptionally well built and rugged machines (before the 2001 model year in my opinion). look at the size of the pins and bushings, the twin tilt cylinder on the boom, the guage of the material in the boom construction, this might change your opinionon them. Then start comparing specs, they had the higest available wheel torque in their classes, the all time higest available hydraulic flow (47 gallons a minute,1700 cx and 1800dx), and the largest engines in their classes (usually in both displacement and horsepower) they also use the largest drive chains , and always had the roomiest cabs and are the easyist of all of the skid steers to get into and out of.
Not that they dont have their weaknesses, anything above the 1500 class has a slow travel speed. And i do feel that they require a lot of physical effort to operate , (the non sero controls can build up your sholder mussles) and most of bobcats machines are better balanced for grading work. Scat always seems to have "rough edges" on the ergonomics. Before volvo took over, getting parts could be a pain, since volvos involvement , parts are easier to find and get, and i think even cheaper in many cases! the relatively short wheelbase they have when compared against modern designs does make the ride a bit choppier at times, but in my line of work , smaller is better to ge into tight places with, and i think you tend to scuff the tires a bit less without the long wheelbase.
As I`m sure you have figured out from reading this, I`m a real fan of these machines. I`m a contractor that does a bit of everything (steel fabrication, rigging and trucking, excavation, landscaping and demolition). We have run (and wrecked) most brands and models of skid steer loaders, including twisting booms, constant overheating, breaking drive chains, snapping axle housings and axel bearings, we are the worst nightmare of many rental houses........ For the crazy world that we operate in, the scat was the right shoice. a simple, wicked strong , straight forward design, that shows up everyday ...... this past summer i bought a 2000 model year 1500 from the only rental house that still likes me,lol. It is quicker and more nimble than the 1700 a better maching for running the harley rake and fine grading, i dont care much for that machines turbo kubota, i think the perkins in the 1700 is a better engine for the jobs we do .
In short , scat would make a good machine for almost anyones equipment aresnal................

I know I am late to this thread, but wanted to place my input. I have been operatering a Skat Trak 1700 CX since 1997 (ours was new then). It is by far the strongest I have ever operated. I have been in everything from New Holland to Cat, John Deere to Mustang. Just about everyone I have operated, stalled going into pile of dirt for a load. I push this thing hard, as I do with everything I operate. I have yet to be disappointed by it. I want it to do the work, not me, as with all equipment. Just my opinion.

Just got a call from a friend of mine, quarryman for one of our crushing spreads. He is looking at a 1500D Turbo. A guy we lease a quarry from has it on his website(he is a buyer and auctioner). Just wondering if there are any goods and bads about this machine, I belive it will be particulary used for work around his house and in the timber draging trees out for fire wood.

Skat trak

I have a 1300 d with a clamp grapple bucket, this grapple is a tad to big for my machine and it tends to be TIPSY. I LOVE MY LITTLE SKAT TRACK. No real problems, had a wire come loose the other day , from the start stop selinoid magnet fuel shut off-on thingy. had some busted hoses flat tires etc. considering we work it in a junk yard it has held up very well.
When we first bought this machine it STUNK literally. a chicken farmer had it and the underbelly was full of chicken chit. took us 2 days to scrap and wash it all out. we put a homemade cab kit and heater in it ....love that too here in the moutains... it was 3 that is three degrees the other morning she started and we scraped snow for 2 hours.
I WOULD BUY ANOTHER ONE IF I NEEDED IT AND WOULD RECOMEND THEM TO ANY ONE.

A little Scat trac at work got abused for many, many years by at least a dozen operators. I could only imagine how long she would have lasted if taken care of.

Can any of you fine fellows give me the year and model number off of this info for a Scat Trak??

Scat Trak
Model # 15003
SN 101229

I just picked it up today for $2,000.00 with just under 2000 hours on it. It does need some of the Quick couple plumbing replaced so I can use some of my Bobcat attachments on it. I will mostly just use this one for plowing snow up north in Flagstaff so I do not have to haul my 753G back and forth. But I do want to fix what is broken/missing on the machine.

i may be wrong but i think the scat cat was built by a Canadian company that made the Thomas skid steer. find a Thomas parts dealer and you can get any part you need.

Scat Trak 2300D

I have a 2996 Scat Tral 2300D and have a few questions. There is a wire connected to the ground of the starter. Does anyone know what this wire is for? Also, does anyone know the numbers to replace the hydraulic filters on this machine? Thanks for any responses.

I meant to say a 1996 Scat Trak 2300D. The wire connected to the ground termnial is a small guage wire. I just don't know what it is for.
