Thanks for the help on the HD-5!! So i am back again..Well we picked up this case it does not move forward or reverse. starts and runs well, load and hoe work. think its mid 70 era. I figured out it has a torque converter because the gauge reads zero psi..
i found this plug on the right side of machine.. It seems to have gear fliud in it.. I was thinking it was a fill for the converter pic.

I can't see the plug you refer to clearly. If a torque converter drive, the shuttle oil fill will be the large plug/ dipstick on right rear corner of the shuttle cover. This cover is just in front of the transmission cover. Note that the trans/diff uses a different type of oil and it's plug/dipstick is located just behind the transmission cover.

Torque drive models usually have their shuttle oil filter located just in front of the radiator.

In your spare time read the lengthy thread "My 580B won't even move", one this same page. Many of your questions will be answered there. Phil:)

My machine seems to be a 580 ck.. I noticed here that 580b ck is similar but how much?

I am a little confused the large plug in front of shifter is for torque converter. so it takes TCH fluid (similar to atf) which is not 80-90w..

The plug behind the shifter is for the gear box/trans. which takes the 80-90w

The other thing i need clarified is the location of the shuttle screen to be checked. I came across two confusing pic..

first one
https://www.heavyequipmentforums.com/Forum/showpost.php?p=157505&postcount=22 do i need to split the tractor to see clean this filter?
sec one
https://www.heavyequipmentforums.com/Forum/showpost.php?p=160426&postcount=80 what is this screen for?
Thanks in advance

UPDATE;
Pulled the shuttle drain plugs got at least 1 gallon of water out plus all the nasty fluid.
Off to get fluid and filter for flushing...

Good new..new fluid and she started to move!!! A little sluggish but maybe a new filter and another change will help..

Another question .. removed the hoe off the rear.. I assumed the feed line with the quick disconnect would reconnect back to the other one so the hose would not drag.. The fitting keeps leaking.. reconnect back to hoe no leak. Any thought?

Born2ride,
The second link you posted shows the screen and adaptor plate removed from the machine and upside down.

A working dash gauge makes it easier to monitor clutch apply pressure. Various pressure checks on the shuttle system, should be done with a 0-100 psi gauge, a 0-500 psi gauge and a length of hydraulic hose (1/4"), if troubleshooting.

The torque converter on a 580CK or BCK cannot be drained as I recall so a second oil change would be a good idea. There is a drain in the bottom of the filter housing also. I think I would replace the shuttle cover gasket and make sure the fill plug has a copper washer under it.

The only thing I can remember about the big disconnect is to reconnect it together before starting the machine and driving away from the hoe. Sometimes a leak can be stopped by replacing the o-ring, just inside the bore of the female connector.

Thanks for the pic s1120. Phil:)

I could not bring up your link for some reason. The shuttle filter is located just in front of the radiator, mounted in the bottom left corner of the opening, behind the grill. Remove the filter housing cover(4 bolts) and the filter will lift out.

The shuttle pump intake screen requires much more work to access, and is not part of regular maintenance. Phil:)

1969 case 580 ck backhoe with shuttle shift. When it gets warm it will not move forward but will in reverse, when you 1st start up runs great forward and reverse. I have changed filter up by radiator any other suggestion?

What does the fluid look like? I would probably drain it and replace.

Fluid

Looks good have replaced it twice, going to take apart soon and check suction tube screen after read several past forums this seems to be a common issue. Thank you for your reply greatly appreciated.
That’s the same situation I’m in. I checked the screen and found it torn off of the suction tube. I have it tore down now waiting for gaskets.

Yeah that's seems to be a real common issue on this older machine. Do you by chance have a link to order the parts?
I have been using Dale Weiss at Tractor Stuff. (765) 378-3396. He’s out of Indiana I believe. A lot of guys on here use him and he’s very knowledgeable about these machines.
