Hey there...

I have a 2002 Komatsu PC128 (not sure the dash #?). Anyway, I am getting several error codes on the monitor. I know there is a way to self diagnose these error codes using a button combination....I forgot what it was (its been a while since I've done it). Do you guys have any idea what combination of buttons I have to press in order to get the self-diagnosis for these error codes up on the monitor?

Secondly, do you guys have any idea where I can get the actual error codes for this series of Komatsu? I saw a link earlier to the ConstructionCentric forums, but that website is down and will NOT load up for me for the last 2 days. Is there anywhere else I can obtain the codes for my Komatsu? Also any idea what Dash # Komatsu I have? I feel like a total dinosaur not being able to keep up with the technological aspect of this.

Thanks a lot, I appreciate it guys! :beerchug

I can't remember those machines of that era having the button combination but most of the machines that I worked on were 128s. As I recall you pulled the plastic cover behind the seat and the code display was there. Those codes are different than the ones that were posted on the ConstructionCentric site because the zero tail swing machines of that era didn't have much computer capability in them.

You mention codes on the monitor. Can you post them? Check the back of the monitor panel for a deep hole with a button in it. If you have it, push that and the bottom lower left button to bring up the fault code mode. You can cycle through them by holding the back button and the modes buttons.

I don't know what happened to the ConstructionCentric site either and haven't been able to make contact with the owner of the site yet. I'll post here when I find something out.

I'll check my old books and see if I have the codes for those machines. I do have the codes for most of the rest.

Hey there John, thanks a lot for the quick reply.

I am sure that there is a button combination for the self diagnosis of the fault codes in the pc128 - as I've done it before. I just truly forgot what it was being a few years ago (a local repair guy showed me how). Anyway, I will check the back of the monitor for a deep hole and hopefully there's a button there so I can try your button combination.

The codes I was getting are all general codes that don't correspond to a direct problem I believe...they need to be "diagnosed" first. The codes were something like E04 E05 E06 I believe. I will check on them tomorrow morning and post later in the evening as to what I find.

Thanks again for your help so far - I appreciate it! :)

There is alot of different combos, there is the button on the back of the monitor, there is one including the buzzer stop, and a couple that you hold a button on the monitor ans push 1,2,3. Can you take a picture of the monitor, I dont have access to my work computer but if you dont have your answers by Monday im sure I can help you out.

The EO4, 5 and 6 codes are just the operator alerts that are supposed to tell you which system is having the problem.

The PC228 machines of that era did not have the diagnostic systems of the standard house machines. These are probably UU machines but as I recall I also worked the US machines the same way.

My book shows the fault code LEDs for the PC228-1and 2 to be behind the plastic cover behind the operator's seat. They are pretty much like the old Dash 5 systems. They are red LED light showing numbers. I have the codes for these machines in my book. Post your codes and I'll be able to system, problem and specifications that will allow you to troublshoot it.

Ok i fixed the problem today - the terminals needed to be cleaned. The fault code has gone away.

However, is there somewhere that I can obtain a list of PC128us-2 fault codes? This would be most helpful.

Thank you!

You have to have the shop manual for that, I dont remember how many codes but for the -7s there are thousands of codes.

I see...so there is no internet resource with all the codes?

Where can I purchase one of these shop manuals? Are they any different than the operator's manual for the machine?

Thanks!

There very well could be a source on the internet but I dont know of one, Komatsu keeps a pretty good hold on that info.

Any Komatsu dealer should be able to order you a shop manual, they are usually not cheap but usually if someone calls and gives us the code they found we will look it up and give them the reason for the code.Shop manuals have portions like disassembly/assembly, troubleshooting, structure and function. They have a ton more info than the OMM.

Ah I see...this explains a lot - thank you.

If I have any more codes that I do not know the solution to, I will post them up on here and hopefully I can get some assistance from one of you guys with the shop manual. I am very appreciative of this.

Thanks very much again to everyone who helped me out. :D

I have the codes for Dash 3 up to Dash 7 but plus the codes for the 228UU machines. Apparently I don't have the codes for the 128US machines but I know I've worked on them. Why don't you post a photo of your monitor panel so I can figure out which system you are running. I had all the codes posted on ConstructionCentric but haven't been able to find out why the site went down. I don't own that site and have no control with the people at the server.

I would post the codes here but don't want there to be any issues between the owner's here and the manufacturer. The codes I have are not cut and pasted or scanned from a manual so there is no copyright issue but someone here needs to say it's OK before I do it.

On the other side of this issue I do consider it to be pretty low for the manufacturers to build a machine and then make you pay extra for the information it takes to keep that machine running. They have run the price of manuals into the high hundreds of dollars and then prevented information even from getting to their dealer networks. Many on here could tell many stories of dealer wrenches coming to machines with no info on how to fix it. Generally they are going to the school of hard knocks on customer dollars.

Code 13 is a disconnection in the arm half flow solenoid. Code 15 is a disconnection in the swing brake solenoid system. There is no code for 52. What you are seeing is S-2 which is the mode you are in.

It sounds to me like you have a problem in the wiring harness. Look for damage between the cab and engine compartments.

Good Luck!

Code 14 is a disconnection in the swing brake solenoid. Code 18 is a disconnection in the TVC solenoid system.

There are two toggle switches under the box on the right side behind the operator. Shift those switches and the codes should go away. Those switches are the bypass switches to those functions. They are probably in bypass mode. It the codes don't go away after shifting the switches you probably have a wiring problem.

Good Luck!
