Hi guys.I just bought an 1964 Case 530 construction king backhoe,it has the model 32 hoe,and 32 loader.
The transmission is the shuttle shift/torq converter setup, right now the shuttle shift lever will not stay locked into forward gear, its fine as long as you hold it in place.I'm guessing there must be an adjustment, detent ball or something thats worn, that should be keeping it in gear,if anyone knows what to look at ,or adjust any help would be appreciated.thanks

Wow, that's cool capnkel! You've got to unload it from the trailer and send us some more pics! :)

Yes, more pictures.

If you go back to post #184 on the thread "My 580B can not even move", you will see the shift spool marked 'C' and the stop bracket 'D'.

Without checking, I think this is the same general valve that you have. Let me know if it's not, I've never worked on a 530 with torque drive.

The spool has 3 detents in it and a ball and spring apply pressure through a hole in the valve body. If you can locate the shift spool 'C', diconnect the linkage off it and see if has 3 distinct positions. When in the rear detent position, I think it's reverse, the stop bracket will hit the stop bolt, at the same time the ball falls in the detent. Make sure that part is set correctly. If the spool works as it should, it should just be a linkage adjustment. Phil

Getting it on the trailer was a bit of fun,,she'd get almost off the ramps with the rears with the frontend off the ground, and the hoe dragging dirt, and she would stop moving, the brakes aren't the greatest,so she would roll back down, after about 4 tries once we flipped the torq converter lever down,it went right up .
Getting it home was another story, this thing is supposed to weigh about 8700lbs,the trailer i rented was rated for 14000lbs,so i should have been fine, once i started down the road,it didn't take long to find out that this was going to be a white knuckle trip, over 40 mph the trailer would start swaying all over,no where close to check or get air for the tires.
Finally get back home with it,check the tire pressure 32-65 lbs on g rated tires that should have 115psi,told the guy at the rental place, well they only should have 35psi he says,um,no,seating the bead says not to excede 35 psi,but in use calls for 115 psi, once i pointed that out to him,he cut my rental rate.hopefully if i ever transport it again,it will haul the way it should have.
I need to look the shuttle setup over, and see what i can do with it,right now i need the hoe more than the loader.

Man I can't believe it. Looks very original with that decal on the back. I've never seen fenders like that on a Case. Good luck, Phil

Those fenders are the only thing i can see that is not original on this tractor, someone custom made the set thats on it now,not a bad job either, pretty rugged.

Well, after running this for awhile,it needed some attention to the loader, every cylinder was leaking,a couple quite bad.
Drove it into the shop and started taking stuff apart, most came apart without to much trouble, but one pin is frozen in the bucket linkage, heat and a BFH didn't budge it,so i dismantled the cylinder in place.
Discovered the left loader cylinder rod is bent slightly, should be able to straighten on a press.
Had a hell of a time finding the wiper seals for this thing,$1.83 each from the local seal supplier, but they only had 1 and theres a 6 week backorder for more, finally had to buy from Case, shipped from Philly at $11.45 each, ouch, just a little markup:mad:.A couple rod seals were junk, just crumbled apart taking them out.Hopefully she will be good and tight for awhile after i get things together again.
Question for anyone that has run this machine,i think this needs work on the shuttle shift, you cant shift from forward to reverse without using the clutch, not sure if its supposed to be this way or not,my understanding of what ive read is this operates much the same as a automatic transmission, the clutch only needs to be used when changing the hi/lo range,or the 4 tranny gears,is this right?

A 530 is what I cut my teeth on! Yes you have to use the shuttle clutch to change from forward to reverse as well as the main trans.. These aren't the same as a power shuttle.

Yep, push in the clutch. Shift lever forward or back. Grinding gear noises (GGRRRRR) then let out clutch.:D Oh my, what memories.

Thats good to know,i bought it from the wife of a guy who died a couple years ago,and she knew very little about this machine. If i am supposed to use the clutch to shift between forward and reverse,i guess thats normal, still not real sure on the small lever on the right side of the steering wheel, acts like it locks the torque converter up.
Anyone have any idea what pressure the guage that reads transmission pressure should read too,the original thats in this is stuck, and doesn't have a scale, just low, good, high.

Hey guys. I am looking at buying a simular 1966 530ck from a friends grandma. It is a diesel with the bachhoe. I will be using for mostly dirt moving and pising some rocks around. Im a diesel mechanic by trade so I dont mind having to work on it I just dont have a ton of experiance with machinery and was wondering if these machines are actually built as tough as I have heard. It has been well maintaned. Just want to make sure thay dont tend to be money pits. Thanks for any help.

If this drawing is correct for your 530, you can take the linkage off the shuttle spools and be able to rotate the spools 180 degrees. That should allow the detent ball to drop into unused grooves in the other side of the spool. Unless someone has already done it before.

Poot,
It's my feeling that the loader and the hoe design made the tractor famous at the time. It was a big hoe and a lite tractor, just a good combination. These machines are getting old and parts acquisition is the biggest concern I would have. The engine parts I believe are all available aftermarket since they are common with the newer 580 and 580B, except a new engine block. Getting parts for the power shuttle would be my concern. If it's a direct drive machine you are looking at, then that's a plus. The 530 farm tractor is similar so that's good news too. Always check the engine oil for coolant, might be leaking liner rings(common) or a cracked engine block(less common). Phil:)

Hi, My son bought a 530 case with model 32 hoe and loader two years ago with the Idea of fixing it up but he passed away last Sept 09. Its a fairly good old hoe but needs some work and I am looking to try to get it working better. Does anyone know where I might be able to find a cylinder or a rod for the cylinder on the loader for this machine. I know that there are used parts suppliers all over but its hard to come up with the names and address's for them Thanks RLeOlddude

NOOOOOOOOO! a crunch when changing forward/ back means MANUAL shuttle. the problem is in the hi lo section, the picture above is wrong, take off the top cover, (hi lo and shuttle box cover), 4 bolts, and you will find that behind the last gear, (as far back as you can go, there is a free running bush, and behind that a spring clip, which will have jumped out. its a B*&&%^ch to put back, if its still in one peice even, but thats your problem, you will know because the last cog will move about 1/4 inch forward/back if the clip is gone.
