No fuel on Bobcat 753

I have a mid-90's 753 that is resting peacefully on our access road unable to move. The nearest mechanic is about 1 1/2 hours away so I could use some help with a diagnosis (fuel pump?) and a fix.

There's no fuel in line and no amount of squeezing the bulb will produce anything but air out of the fuel filter bleeder valve. When I turn the key on I don't hear anything like a pump cycling, should I? Is there a fuse for the fuel pump and if so where is it? If the problem is with the fuel pump, where is it located and is the replacement difficult for a moderately handy person?

Thanks for the help!
Bob

It's hard to write this without chuckling about your 753 "resting peacefully on our access road", that's a funny intro to a post. I'd bet you've dropped your fuel tank pick up line. On your fuel tank there's two elbow fittings. One for fuel pick up and one for fuel return. Pull on your fuel supply line to the primer bulb to determine which one is you fuel pick up line at the tank. When you determine which one is the pick up line, remove it from the tank. It will be a elbow fitting installed in a rubber grommet at the tank. I'd bet you'll find there's no line attached to the fitting, or a cracked line fixed to the fitting. Bobcat uses a vinyl tube in the fuel tank to pick up fuel. One end is attached to the grommet fitting on the tank, the other end had a screen fitting with a check ball at the bottom of the tank. Over time, the vinyl tubing gets hard, and with fuel sloshing in the tank, it breaks the tubing where it connects to the grommet fitting. Pull the grommet fitting out of the tank, install a new vinyl pick up tube and check ball screen (from Bobcat), and re-install, using a new rubber grommet. That should fix your problem.

Thanks for the great advice! I could score some points by moving this thing out of the road and the furnace oil delivery guy would probably appreciate it too!

If you disconnect the primer bulb does it create a suction on your finger when you work it? I agree it is a common problem with the fuel pickup hose, but a cracked bulb will do it also.

Checking the primer bulb would be the best place to start. It's a quick and easy test. :)

Don't want to hijack your thread but I'm having a similar problem. The fuel solenoid kicks over when the key is turned on but when you crank the engine the solenoid shuts off so I get no fuel. I don't have a manual for it yet for the wiring diagrams. If I hold the lever over it will start and run fine. I have been operating it this way for a while. There is a fuel 3 fault so the gauge doesn't work but I wouldn't think this would keep it from running. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I was having similar problems on a s185 and found that the line had a sharp bend between the bulb and tank, would start and run for a bit then would quit, was sucking the line closed where the bend was, line was black rubber, replaced with longer line to eliminate the sharp bend has fixed the problem. At first I was thinking there was a pump in the tank that wasn't working, no pump in tank.

Would someone post a diagram, or pic with caption would work as well. Am running (stalling) with same issues.

I am looking for some information on a T-200.. I have a problem with the there being no power to the relay for the fuel solenoid. There is power at the red wire and if I jump the solenoid relay like how it would be if the solenoid received power I can get the fuel solenoid to power up. Hope I explained it well enough. If anyone can help it would be really appreciated.

Sounds like the connector that attaches to the solenoid has a problem. The connector can be disassembled without destroying it, using a pick tool. You need to clean up/tighten the terminals that couple to the solenoid.

Thanks for the reply, I am not too good at explaining.. But anyways I just purchased a2002 t-200 it has 1500hrs and it ran all of about 10 minutes AFTER I owned it. Then it just stopped. After checking out many things I found I had no power at the fuel solenoid . I checked the relay in the front of the machine and found there was no power to the coil on the relay to make it switch over to relay power to the fuel solenoid. I know that the wiring is good from the front of the machine where the relay is to the back because if I jump the relay in the fuse box area I can make the solenoid power up. But I am not sure where to go from here. I can flip the fuel lever and start the machine and it seems to run normally, but would like to fix what ever is wrong. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated, I was kinda of hoping to use the machine for awhile before I had to work on it.. Thanks

Welcome to the forum lizkid. :usa

I'm no Bobcat expert, but worked on enough of the critters to know I hate working on them. Uncomfortable little beasts to work on. :tong

Keep in mind, your problem could ultimately be the BICS control module, I have know idea how to work on them and my local Bobcat dealer is little to no help when it comes to pickin' their brain for electrical problems. You stated you "had power at the red wire", I assume you mean the red wire at the fuel solenoid relay, and that you could "jump the solenoid relay like how it would be if the solenoid received power". That sounds like you've pulled the relay, determined you have battery (fuse) power on terminal 30 of the relay, and you installed a jumper between terminal 30 and terminal 87A (wire going to fuel solenoid), and can activate fuel solenoid. So, your describing a situation where the relay is not being activated either because it's not getting a voltage input, or, it's not getting a ground on the relay, most likely it's not getting a voltage input. I don't know if the keyswitch or the BICS sends the voltage signal to the relay. And, do you have a keyswitch, or do you have the Bobcat keypad? A faulty keypad can be the problem as well. Yeah, all this tends to get complicated. But, there is one thing you need to check. Check the wiring harness coming from the cab wiring down to the innards of the machine. Look for any scuffs in the cable/harness. And there should be some harness plug connections just above the hyd reservoir. Take these connections apart and check for corroded terminals. I have seen corroded terminals on the plug connections and have had to install jumpers around them. I wish I could be of more help, but maybe this will give you a place to start. :)
