Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 75 by 75 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller).

I saw nothing about not allowing .gif file types. To answer another way, .gif images are a series of pictures that must load quickly, and thus slow down the load speed just a smidgen.

Bandwidth perhaps, not real sure how the whole thing works yet. Never have been a big fan of them or the giant signatures some folks use. Not necessarily talking about this site. Some people have signatures that take up half the page, Your trying to read a post and this thing keeps flashing at you. Its a distraction. Little hint, The size of your signature has nothing to do with the size of your manhood!
Actually, I've never had a giant signature. My wife might like me to at least try one and see what happens.

brynbaily, your avatar is a jpeg, which isn't an animated format anyway. I don't find anything that restricts animated gif files, other than the allowable file size. As a matter of fact, I just tested the concept by loading this one: :bash, as an avatar, and it works.

That having been said, I personally prefer to not have the distraction of something moving around at the edge of my field of view while I'm trying to read a post...

Well, it actually used to be.....I had to deanimate it, shrink it and convert to .jpg in order for it to be acceptable.:Pointhead

I understand where your coming from. Having a size limit is totally exceptable and a good idea to keep things under control; but when you upload an image (a animated one) within the limits of aloud size it tells you "animated images are not aloud". This is what brought me to question.
Its not how big your avitar is, its all in how you animate it...lol:woohoo

We don't allow animated images of any type here other than the smileys we've provided. They annoy the hell out of me and are a distraction as the guys have mentioned.

Like running a piece of heavy equipment. How would you like something flashing in the corner of your eye all the time.

I don't see where anyone flamed you in this thread at all. It was just said several times that many individuals here would rather not have a lot of animated distractions around.

That said, I am sure we all welcome you and any input you may have to the forum. There is much to learn and share here, and a lot less mayhem than other sites because of the rules and the good job done by the moderators to enforce them fairly.
(Even the guy with the scary looking blade)

Don't give up and go away because of a lack of antimation. I am sure you could contribute as well as learn here.

That's interesting. I copied the waving flag that's here at the top of the page, and tried loading it as an avatar. It doesn't wave, but it's there--with no 'you can't do that' message. Maybe the software is afraid of the big sickle too? :beatsme

Hmmmm..... :cool2

Maybe it's in the permission set then? Admin can upload whatever but regular members cannot?

That would seem to be the case, curly. Learning something new every day...
