poly pipe layers

Hi,
I just got a job come in that needs about 3000 metres of 19mm (3/4") poly laid at about 100mm (4") deep thru lawn and sand. I have a large vermeer trencher but seems an overkill for such a small trench. Has anyone any experience with the attachments call a poly pipe layer which looks to be a single tyne ripper with some sort of system for feeding poly pipe to the bottom of the cut. Dingo sell them, not sure who else. I have a Thomas 35gt or a BC 763 which I can attach too.

Bruce, Ag poly was very commonly laid in this method for miles and miles. A single boot ripper was fashioned/built at the rear (normally for a 3 point linkage) with an OD clearance lay-out tube running down and curving out behind the ripper. A jenny was made to take the roll of poly and this was normally fitted at the front of the machine with the pipe going over the top of the machine.

bobcat list a vibratory plow for their mini tracked machine, i assume dingo would have something similar.

otherwise as per squizzy, a ripper behind a tractor which works not very well if your country is hard/rocky. if you use it in such then the usual go is to rip it sans pipe first then have another go laying the pipe in the same rip.

usually they are available from the pipe retailer in a country town, if in the big smoke dunno where you might obtain one.

Thanks Squizzy, I guessed it was something like that. I dont need the roller as it is only in 40m lengths for subsoil irrigating of lawn. Traction of the machine to pull it thru is what is concerning me.

Like mouse said sometimes we had to rip it once or twice beforehand. We only had a homemade setup but it worked a treat for 200metre rolls...until you got carried away going to fast and hit a stump!. Tractor Sudden Stop + Jenny keeps spinning = Big Balls up:o

I would not use a PolyPipe ripper for this job . If it only going in 4" you have no room for error . If the tractor dips even a little you will have the ripper and pipe come out of the ground , and you will be on the shovel trying to fix it all up . Also 4" of dirt on top of the pipe will not be heavy enough , the pipe will pull out of the trench as you are driving . I would hire a little walk behind trencher , cost you about $70 a day and would be far more subtle for what you are doing .
