The only thing my 246B didn't have when we bought it was aircon. However the dealer owned the machine (not Cat) and it had two hours on the clock. We managed to get a 4 in 1 bucket fitted in the deal but the machine was already $9K off the new price. We decided to go without the A/C and have fitted the side windows since. I can get the front door made up no problems.

The price of retrofitting A/C with Cat was horrendous. I was quoted $6000.00 AUD for an aftermarket kit which is basically very similar to the Cat kit. (about $4,400.00 US)

Its not the hot or cold that bothers me its the rain and the dust. The latter is getting to me as we are coming into summer. I came home last night absolutley covered in dust and the cab of the machine is just orange. On top of this the seat switch has got dust in it and now needs replacing.

Does anybody know of a bolt on 12volt A/C unit that could mount on the roof of the cab??. I'd be prepared to import from the states if anybody knows of a reliable unit. TIA.

Not sure what you were quoted, I found the suggested heat and a/c kit number from CAT. 218-6747 KIT - COIL A

the price as of November 11, 2007 for a cash customer is $2435.59 usd

I have seen several aftermarket roof mounts units that work very well, but if overhead brush is a problem a stout guard will have to be built to protect it. You can still use the behind the cab condensor and fans but i recomend aftermarket parts if you try to piece meal a kit.

Let me know if you need more info, and I still need to check to see if the kit is available, the server is down tonight for weekly updates.

Why did you buy Cat or ASV or JD or Fecon or Rayco or????
This is just a curious question. To answer this question for myself, I would say, after alot of research I decided to spend the $96,000 for the Fecon FTX90L. This machine was built for this work and it will out produce the skidsteer models of the same size, with less breakdown. I have a skidsteer to do the skidsteer work, so I wanted a dedicated machine just for mulching. Thanks, thats why I did it, Im just wondering if I made the right move :beatsme

Well I would say you probably made a smart decision but I don't know the first thing about FEcon machines. I am not overly impressed by the engine or HYD power of the FECon machine. If all you need to do is mulch it should work fine though the operating pressure seems low for a mulching head.
