E-mail from here? Banned members ?

I just got an email from about banned members .Now it just struck me as odd why I would be getting such a mail. I did not open as i was afraid of the last time a spamer/virus got into here and tryed to get in from that way. Can anyone tell me if it is a legit mail or not ?

I got the same one, it did strike me as odd seeing as how theres almost never anyone banned here. I dont know for sure. I'm sure someone knows whats going on.

I got one too. I hadn't heard anything from Steve about it, but it certainly looked like it came from him.

I'm no expert on the intricacies of VBulletin software, but I do know that banning users involves the software's ability to recognize the IP address of whomever is logged on to the site. Different service providers have different ways their IP adresses show up. I know I've read (on other sites) of instances where users were inadvertantly banned because someone with the same or a similar IP address had been banned. I'd bet something like that is what happened here. I'm sure Steve will let us know.

Computers are pretty capable machines, but you need to be *very* specific in the way you tell them what you want them to do. They don't excercise good judgement, and they just take everything *so* literally....

I got the same eveyone did. but Steve fixed problm and was just letting everyone know there was glich in the system. so that if you happend to be one of the ones saying you where banned he wanted you to know you weren't.

While I was banning a spammer last night, I came across a pool of about 30 members who were listed as banned. I've got no clue how this happened, but my tech informed me it might have been due to some security walls he had installed. In my dismay and hast, I reinstated them without making a list of who they were so I sent a blanket e-mail to be sure I reached them.

Sorry I scared some of you, it was pretty upsetting to me to make this discovery and I panicked. The last thing I want to do is alienate our membership!!! I wanted to get everyone back here with us who were denied access for Lord knows how long!!

Might I suggest a quick way for you to have kept track of the members on that list would be to taken a screen shot.

Hind sight is 20/20. I just went in a panic over the discovery. The last thing I want to do is offend the members or deny them access. Next time I'll act a little more responsibly.
