My friend's parents leased out the mineral rights to drill for oil earlier this summer . Between the excessive amount of rain we got at the beginning of the summer and the high demand for oil, they didn't get to drilling til last week. The company they leased the mineral rights to had to subcontract the drilling to catch up on their backlog, that turned out to be a mistake. TOS ordered fuel from the CO-OP with 4 hours of fuel left for the rig and took 6 hours so they ran it out of fuel and then had to pull 600ft of pipe and drill again. Then there was extra stick on the pipe truck, so they're not really sure where they found the oil sand or if they found all of it. The guys runnin the rig were good guys, but there boss has no business running one. Anyway, i finally remember my camera on the third day.

V12 screamin driptroit. I was sure it wasn't a DD b/c when there were running it was loud at all, either those mufflers are really good or they were going sloooww the whole time i was there.

I have never seen such a mess in my life.
Where is the containment pits for the produced water? That stuff can contain more salt than sea water.
Produced oil just left to spill on the ground? That whole area is now a contaminated site.
Before I became a parts dude I worked for an environmental company doing well site clean ups. Had we seen that happening where I live there would have been many many unhappy people.
Lots of fines and jail time for everyone involved. Lawyers would have a hey day with this one.

Thanks for the pics Hvy 1ton. I'd like to show some of my ignorance here. It sounds like they are planning to produce oil on the site. I'm guessing they will have to supply some sort of "grass hopper" pump as we call them to retrieve the oil. What do they expect to yield? Do you pull the oil up and place into storage or do you pipeline it some place? How deep are they planning to drill?
Well, I won't bother you with any more questions for now. Thanks and no laughing at the questions!!!:beatsme

They are planing to produce oil. They will have an on-site tank farm linked to all the well pumps by a small pipeline. The company that leased the mineral rights has been very busy. They subcontracted the drilling of my friends farm to meet a contract deadline, and after one well, decided that was a mistake. My friend is now waiting for the company to free up on of their drill rigs to contuine any further. The oil is supposed to start around 810ft with 9ft of oil sand. The problem is the company they subcontracted was run very poorly, and there was an extra length of pipe on the truck, so they are not sure where the oil sand is or how much there is. The last time anything happened they filled the one well with bentonite. They were going to redrill and scan it the next week, but that still hasn't happened. My friends family has had a rough summer and aren't in a big hurry, now that they know something is there. As for the yield, i don't remember the estimate, and even if i did it could be wrong b/c of the extra pipe on the truck screwing up the sampling from the well. So, somewhere between 5-25 barrels a day, if that helps at all.
Partsdude, there was a pit all along, just too small for the bentonite guys to use, so they stopped before it overflowed and had the pit dug bigger. A lot of the mess can be attributed to the TOS guys. Not really the workers, but their boss.
Tonka, the rigs the oil company owns are even smaller.
Pretty neat there and thanks for the pics. There's supposed to be some major natural gas drilling going on somewhere near me. The local powerplant is going to convert from coal 100% to 50% coal 50% gas for the first few years. If things turn out good hey plan on going 100% sometime later. I hope it all turns out good and my mother-in-law dont get screwed ( wife's inheritance  just kidding). I'll get some pics and stuff when they start i reckon it's gonna be a big operation according to the guy running around in the truck.

Where are these wells located at? I've been in the oil and gas business for years and let me tell you if we ever got got caught doing something like that we would be in a world of hurt. This kind of mess is why no body wants the oil companies to drill of oil in Alaska, Offshore or anywhere else for that matter. If we had oil get on the ground like that we would have to dig up the ground alteast 5 feet around the the pit and 5 feet deeper (all depending on the oil saturation). Haul all the material to a Waste disposal site and then then back fill the hole with new dirt.
If you ask me thats the problem with oil business these days. These little mom and pop oil companies are not held to the same standards as the big oil companies. I know they don't have the money to compete with big oil. (I deal with that everyday.) But they should have the same respect for the enviroment like every one else.

Heck Let me know where the oil is and I'll bring one of my rigs up there and show them how its done the right way!!!!!!!!

Great pictures hvy 1ton that looks like a 12-V 92 detroit on the rig. It's good to see they found some oil.Maxpro, thanks for sharing the pictures of your drill rig.Did you find any oil on that job?

Yep we are getting about 15 to 20 bbls a day out of that well. We are about to put a pump jack on that one and it should make about 60 to 90 bbls a day.

Thats good to hear Maxpro. We some drilling going on here in south Indiana.Once in awile we will hear of a big natural gas gusher and we have a few pump jack oil wells around.Thats a nice drill rigg you have.

MaxPro, the drillers were sub-contractors that neither the oil company or land owners liked. The boss was a pain and had a bit of temper from what i remember. I don't think i ever mentioned the fact they ran there rig out of fuel. Partly b/c the fuel truck was 4 hrs late, but i mean really?
Anyway the oil company drilled a well while i was busy elsewhere. They did a much nicer job on that one. If you all think we have small rigs up here, you should see the rigs they use for drilling wells in the bottom lands. Water table at less than 20ft.:D

Any time you make a well it is a good feeling. That rig is what we usually drill fresh water wells with here in N. Texas. Here is a pic of the typical rig we use for oil/gas drilling. Maybe your freind will get some more drilled on his place.
