I am clearing a 5 mile 375 foot wide ROW.(see previous post) What do yall think about using an excavator rake. I know it wll be slow compared to a dozer or frontend loader, but I am thinking I can do everthing involved with raking in one step,,,, My guy will go back and forth across the ROW raking the woody debris towards himself after a few passes he will have a "mini" windrow of woody debris that should be fairly clean. He then makes a pass loading this mini windrow in an offroad truck, and is COMPLETLY done with a small area. Then starts the process over. What do yall think?? If I could dedicate one man and one machine to raking,, and get cleaner material than I am with a dozer or frontend loader,, and not have any windrows to pick up,, and keep up with my clearing guys. This would be a no brainer!! What am I missing?? What are yalls experiences with excavator rakes??

Thanks

A rake and a good thumb will work out to be faster because in the long run the material is cleaner and you be only hauling the wood waste away. Even if you push it up with a dozer and a rake the pile will still have to be sorted thru. And you are less likely to miss any stumps and roots :bash
