Pull pasn I havent run a 290 m but dad transported one one. About 30 mph and articulated with slack in it lol. This one had the big blad and pan both. The blade had pin up back drag rippers for rippinng when the blade was in reverse. It was also straigh shift with a 9 or 10 speed transmission and also a cummins 300 big cam. I can buy the same machine for 3500 right now. My older brother ran a few older stegers when he was about 15 or 16. Alot of them were straight shifters to. I may buy the 290 its near useless here in our soil past the layer of clay as the sand wont support it when its dry. Rock and dirt has a company that parts them out. Used to be several at the local college when they closed the operators school down years ago.

I ran the 290 in the early 70's; the ones we had were 4 speed automatic. It seamed like a good tractor @ the time; but we usually used a D-8 or a bobtail 290 as a push tractor for loading the pan.

I am curious about the Clark 290 also, was looking for one around northern wisconsin. We have mainly sandy soil here so thought it may work well. Do they need a push dozer to load? Any information would be cool, thanks.

Thanks for the link. I have talked to those folks and they were real helpful. We were talking about doing dirt work for a cranberry marsh and were looking for the best/cheapest way to move alot of dirt. My dad was in 'Nam and ran them when he was training. We were told they are bare bones but will move dirt very good. There must some that are sitting and available cheap.
Is that your JD and scraper? That is a serious rig.
