Starting two projects on my farm. One end of my farm is separated from the balance of the land by a steep ravine carrying the flow from 3 springs. Heretofore the distant parcel, about 10 acres has only been accessible by foot or from a neighboring farm. The parcel is a very nice piece of land with about 1300' of creek frontage and about 300 degrees of mountain views. I finally decided to build a farm road to access the parcel. The road will be about 2,000'. We start off at an elevation of 2550' and descend to 2350' and then back up to 2600'. About 400' of the road will utilize an old logging trail used by oxen with large rock outcroppings on one side and the ravines carrying the springs on the other side.

Photo1 shows destination in top left of photo and photo 2 shows from destination looking back at start(just past tall pines).

Photo 3 is old logging trail which we bulldozed and seeded in February to test viability of road path.

Photo 4 shows a view of the creek, I'll be working on the left side.

Photo 5 shows my new mini

We will use 40' of 4' steel culverts to capture the main flow after all the springs converge. I'm leaving this project to the people who know what they are doing.

At the same time I am using my new mini Komatsu PC27 to convert a cow path along the creek frontage to a 5' wide walking/atv path. I'll also be clearing briars and old fence line along the creek. The cow path is on the steep side of the creek and has considerable slope.

I'll keep you updated as the summer progresses. wish me luck and I hope I don't end up takin my new mini for a swim. :drinkup

more: pic 1 shows a birds nest built into moss on rock outcropping, pic 2 shows nest contents, the birds using the nest are black and gray and blend right into the rock (Mother nature's camo at work) pic 3 is a before looking across spring crossing and starting back up to destination, pic 4 shows after view; pic 5 is start of S turn traverse to take some grade out of final stretch.

will be finalizing S turn today and hopefully will start gravel by end of day.

seeding is done, but we need some rain bad.

Really nice. Is that a productive farm or a nature farm? Other than that, really cool. It looks a bit like where i live, with all the mist.
