i just spent 2 15 hour nights on a 120 hour 953c. i forgot how much i hate them compared to a b model. is it just me or does the 2 speed trans suck? there is a lag in the trans and loader controls that will drive a guy nuts. i will say that it is an excellent cab, but the driveline and controls are terrible. has anyone else noticed these problems or am i a cry baby.:)

Explain a little more to exactly why the 2sp tranny sucks?:beatsme It is designed for extra travel speed on the jobsite, not for heavy digging. If you have it in "rabbit" and try to dig some yardage, then yes the machine will not be very responsive, but that is not what it is designed for.

As far as the trans and controls having a lag, maybe there is something wrong with that particular machine, but my 953C is one heck of a work horse.

I have to second biggixxerjim.

I usually run them all the time in rabbit, they have safety blockers on the pumps to keep you from harming anything, according to the local dealership. Their was 953C's where I used to work that had over 7,000 Hrs. and never had any troubles and they where ran ever hour in rabbit digging basements. I have never felt any delay on any of the C models. I know the all yellow C models seem to have tons of power and felt the best in my opinion. I would have a C model over a B model any day of the week, they are so much more comfortable to run long hours in.

Which C model do you have? There are 3 C model 953's, There are the early black hood ones with a hand throttle, there is the second version with hand throttle, less black paint and the newer 2spd, and the newest inception with eletronic throttle and the revised 2spd. The way to tell a really early C model doesn't increase engine rpm when you turn, the second black hood model does increase power for turns. The first 2 models though you can't change 2spd while on the go, unless the computer has been reflashed.

it's a new c. slow is too slow and fast is too gutless. i don't see the need for a two speed. as for the controls, there is no feel and a definite lag to the loader controls. the b models i have ran were much more precise and seemed to have more power.

I'll take a C model over a B anyday. I have noticed the last few days I have spent in my 973C compared to my 973A... steering input is lighter, loader controls are lighter as well as the hydrostat and the machine doesn't beat me up near as much. And the 953C I had most of the winter was a decent unit as well.

just filling the 3 post minimum

Seeing that I recieved two reply to thread emails on two different threads, both with your post of "just filling the 3 post minimun" and your previous screen name that the mods changed - what is your purpose on this forum?

Instead of just filling your 3 posts, why don't you contribute something to one of these topics before you "get your own soapbox".

Getting a tech to calibrate the drive system could make the machine a completely different animal

I'd rather have an old 977. :drinkup

The 953 and 973 do look good, but i still wouldn't buy one (maybe), not that too many others make tloaders:Banghead

While I am not a Cat man per say...... I do think their track loaders are top notch. I have seen what Deere has to offer and so far im not too impressed. The cabs are nice in their new ones, but I'll take my 53-73C thank you very much!

To be honest, the cat cabs are nice, but its just my opinion that cat tends to make more sort of 'show ponies' than 'workhorses' than they used to. true, the Deere doesn't offer much, but they aren't built by Deere, but by Liebherr branded Deere.

Ha ha show ponies..... thats basically what everyone thinks of my 73C. I have touch up paint, I wash her constantly and the inside of the cab smells like the armorall factory, and bubblegum perfume.

As for workhorses.... the trackloaders earn their keep with us. When I'm pushing off a pile into the ditch, I can bury a D8N when he's trying to level the dirt out, yet oddly enough, he can't bury me.

I just bought a used 953C and I think it's great. I don't really have much experience. I'm loading my dumptruck and hauling dirt out of a pond I'm building. The round trip is 10-15 min. Should I shut the loader off each time or just let it sit there idling?

Hmm thats a tough call with the price of diesel. I say leave it run because if you shut down you will have to waste two minutes every truck because you will have to idle down to cool the engine.

I say leave it running. I had our mechanics laptop hooked up to my 973C today, I wanted to poke around the software... anyways. The base idle fuel rate on the 973 is only .5 gallons per hour. So figure what you would actually burn..... is it worth it?

also running the machine hard for 5 minutes and then shutting it down for another 10-15 min and then repeating the cycle over and over is going to play hell on your turbo
