View Full Version : Thomas skid steers to be marketed by Hyundai
I read Thomas skid steers is now building skid steers for Hyundai and will build skid steers for Kubota in Europe. This is a big step forward for Thomas which seems to struggle (my opinion) gaining any significant market share in North America. I would imagine that Kubota will market these machines in the US if they are successful in Europe.

Hey Kaiser! Yeah, I was impressed that Thomas will be building skids for the two companies as well. Hyundai hasn't seen much skid steer output whatsoever and Kubota definitely isn't a major player in the skid market.
Bobcat is the only other manufacturer that uses all-Kubota engines in its skid steers, but they're the biggest manufacturer as well. Not surprising then that Kubota went to Thomas. As for Hyundai... probably the reasons of strength and durability. Thomas skid steers aren't necessarily the most appealing, but they hold up quite well.

Hyundai had mini excavators and skidsteers at their booth at Conex. I'm wondering if Thomas is also building their mini excavators, because up to this point Hyundai only offered an R55 (6 ton class) excavator.
Kubota may not bring a line of ssl's to the US because Bobcat is a major buyer of engines. Why risk losing a huge engine buyer to gain a small share of the ssl market? I'm sure there's a lot more to it but it's a possibility.

Since this thread si back up, what is the status of Thomas? They were in bankrupcy a while back, any word?
I didn't know that they were in Bankrupcy. It seemed to me they were finally making headway. Perhaps it is too little too late.
