That's the Us Army Corps of engineers. They do have some combat engineering battalions but the majority of their work is civil engineering. Wolf Creek Dam not too many miles from here is one of their big projects from the past.

I know they have some smaller-sized machines, but I thought they contracted most of their work (esprecially the big stuff like this!) to contractors? The dams they own in the Naugatuck Valley (Thomaston, etc.) were mostly built by O&G and a few other guys way back in the day.

Anyway...that's a big ol' crane!!!

This being a heavy lift crane, it would take forever to clam with her.

Those are a beautiful piece of equipment.
There not as hard to move as you would think.
Takes a lot of trucks,people,and a crane,ha
Some of the "gates" on the river locks are very large and heavy.
I could see were they would use it.

What I think it really comes down to is how different countries utilise thier resourses. When you say Royal Corp of Engineers I naturally think military and automatically relate to our forces and cannot think of any reason for our guys to need something so big. Where as in the USA your RCofE do a serious amount of big construction. Big boys deserve big toys :cool2 :drinkup

If it only takes 7 men, who drives the 8th truck? :beatsme

That good sized crane. I will have to walk up to the stadium one of these days and take a picture of the Mantiowoc 14000 they have up there, now that's a crane.

Nah bud, diff area but worth a shot right to catch up with some old mates? with the amount of good ppl comin and goin in this industry we need our own myspace type deal to keep in touch with old crews, talk jobs/equip/rates....

n Lashlander, farmers love em gaurenteed $$ plus the power co's pamper the hell outta them. they dont waste much farmland at all after reclaim, well worth it for 500mw a pop without burnin any oil if you ask me. along with the good longterm careers a windfarm brings to a community i think its a no brainer. Go wind! :) to each his own though neways, thanks for welcomin me boys

Those dang windmills are sure wrecking a lot of good farmland.

I would have to agree with you, I've put up 100 or so of these and all the litter the guys throw around not to mention the hydraulic oil spilt all over their land. I was a little taken back on the lack of respect the guys had. That oil is now part of there crop for who knows how long.

The neighbors that didn't settle with the power company to get one of these wind mills played hard ball with us. We couldn't walk our one of four 16000's across there open frozen farm land. The job was over 10,000 acres.

Now the complaint is the shadow that these are casting on homes. I forgot the term they are using, but just imagine every second a blade shadow flickers in your house. Now they want no less than 1500' from a residential house.:usa
