The first suggestion I'd make is to post the brand and model of skidsteer. We've got a pretty smart and experienced group of people here, who are more than willing to share what they know, but there are an awful lot of different skidsteers out there. What might obviously be wrong with one model might not even exist on a different model.

And, welcome to the forums! :)

Try looking at the parking pin cables. They should run one to each side. This is down in the battery tray area. I would be willing to bet that you have either one or both cables snapped off. If this is the CASE (pun intended), You could change them out on site. I had the cable on the left side shear off while I was running a cube of brick nearer to the bricklayer. It was almost an instant left turn.

A side note. When or if you do this clean the pulley center bearing are really good. lube it well. This is most of the reason that the cables fail. What happens is that the pulley quits rotating and the cable just slides over the pulley causing the cable to wear and break.

The 1800 series skid steers use a "pin lock" system. The short of it is when the arms are raised, pins are released which fall into holes in wheel asembly which lock the wheels. The issues with this system are the belly pan needs to be kept clean to allow the pin mechanism to engage and release (spring, pully, cable, type mechanism). Sometimes the pins will wedge in the holes and fail to release. When this occurs, rock the machine backward slightly, which will release the pin. Whatever you DO NOT try to power your way through the pin lock. You'll shear the lock pins. Hope this helps

I knew as soon as I saw that it was a Case 1845 that Will would be *very* familiar with a possible source of the problem. I recall the same sort of symptoms when I sometimes ran that machine (although luckily it was him on the machine when it failed, and not me). The reply KSSS gave is consistent with that too.

Be sure to let us know if that turns out to have been the problem.

On edit: You beat me to the post. :)

To offer further input to what KSSS is stating here. If you go to move the machine and it is locked. The operators manual states to gently move the loader in the oposite direction slightly to release the pins. Good point KSSS!

Me too
I have an 853 Bobcat and i'll hit button to unlock the bucket and the brake isn't on and it won't allow me to go forward or backward. After trying several times it seems to let go. i have no idea what it is and my mechanic seems to be baffled to. I would appreciate any help.
thanks

your lock in the center of the chaincase there is a coil it could be bad or the wedge and the bolt could be bent if you try to drive through it it will break off and you will be fishing with a magnet to get all t he pieces before you take out a chain or bearing but its in the center take it our its held in by 2 3/8 bolts look it over and make sure the bolt is not bent or the springs are all still there that could be your problem
