I'm looking to buy a trailer & dump truck to move my new track loader. I really don't know what to look for in either, except that for my purposes, a dump truck would serve me better than a semi cab. I won't be traveling long distances (5-30 miles). My 953 weighs about 36,000 lbs. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

I posted this on the other thread, but I'll copy it here.

It all depends on how often you plan to move it and if you can get it to the correct height behind a dump truck. They make a big enough trailer, but they are much taller than a lowbed. Depending on funds and trucks available in your area, you may look into buying a site truck just for your property. With a lot of contractors slowed due to the slumping housing market, you might find a truck that isn't fit for road service, but still good working condition for a bargain. Then if you don't need to move that often, just pay someone. Convenience is really the biggest benefit to having your own trailer unless you move a lot. Without knowing your exact situation, it's difficult to say what's best.

Thanks on the website. Also be sure to check for updates later this year. I'm going to be running a fully built xc quad for the guy I buy all my parts from, so I expect good things this race season.

Where I used to work they hauled the 953's behind a International tri-axle dump truck on a interstate 20 ton tandem axle trailer. It worked fine and never had any height issues. The tires on the trailer were low profile so it didn't sit very high at all. They also hauled the Deere 120 track hoe also with no problems. I even drove it into the scale house with the loader on the trailer one time and the track hoe on another time and they weighed me and gave me the green light to go so I must have been legal. A tandem dump truck would have done fine since I never dropped the tri axle and was still legal.

In IL you cant have more then 34000 lbs per tandem. Even a tandem axle trailer will weigh 10-12000lbs (a heavy one) and even w12% or a bit more tongue weight you cant scale it.

We always moved our 953 on a 20 ton tilt deck with an IH tandem dump. Never had any trouble. Plus we always worked local so we would run loads with the truck to or from the job if needed then hook up at the end of the day and come home.

I move my 953C with my tri-axle and tandem tag trailer rated at 52k lbs. Like was posted earlier it really depends on the weight distribution on the trailer for a less rougher ride.

On another note - 953D - how do you like it? Of course pictures please, we need to update the 953D thread in the track loader section.:D

We have a TrailMax TRD50T tri-axle trailer that we pull behind our dump trucks. And it could carry that, but I am not sure about the height. Our trailer has 17.5" tires so the deck is 34" high. If it had 22.5" tires the deck would be 39".

We haul our 928G on the trailer and if I remember right the height is about 13'7" loaded on the trailer. I believe our 928's height is around 10'8".

So don't know how much taller a 953 is, but if it is more than 5" taller than our 928 then it would be over the 14' legal height.
