As for passing the word about the site. I have a few cards left and the next visit to our local kobelco dealer I will be leaving a few cards to put on the parts counter to distribute them. This is done with thier blessings. Are there anymore of these cards available Steve?

I found this site from an article in Compact Equipment magazine, last fall, forget which issue it was - Sept or Oct, i'd guess.
I'm all for upping the level of banter here, you guys seem pretty level headed. On a couple of the other sites Ive tried, I found that there were a select few guys who "know" they have all the answers and feel compelled to foist those answers upon the poor, hapless newbies who dare to try to break into their ongoing ramblings. After getting shot at a few times, I've slipped over into the monitor mode - It's no fun playing with someone who hogs all the toys.
Much more friendly here, my kind of forum. Thanks, guys.

Thanks for mentioning the cards (http://www.heavyequipmentforums.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=195) Will!! I've got plenty of them here, anyone who'd like to have some just PM me your address and I'll get them out. I found this forum the other night simply by wanting to see if a heavy equipment forum existed out in cyberspace. So, I typed in "heavy equipment forums" into my Yahoo browser, and VOILA! there it was...:bouncegri
I was subscribed to a couple of trucking forums previously, but I quit using them because it seemed every time I would post or reply to a topic or thread, 5-10 "scientists" would come back with a reply that was either sarcastic or plain ignorant, and I realized they knew way more than I did, even with my 25+ years around trucks and equipment. So I left them to their own misery.
So, I searched for a forum where the majority of the people would have a better grip on their attitudes and not be so "critical", and maybe even consider learning from others rather than have ALL the answers. I learn something new each and every time I log onto HEF.com. That's quality entertainment right there...:thumbsup

I recently bought a JCB 215 S Series II backhoe. Just yesterday, the brakes locked up and it would not go forward. I checked and its not the emergency brake. I ordered the owners manual but am extremely worried it is something major.
Actually, this is Dtmans wife. My husband is frustrated and I know he can fix anything. I would just like a response from someone who owns this backhoe. Any ideas the problems?

That would be your husband, wouldn't it? He's probably not responding because you've knocked him unconcious with a frying pan for buying a machine that doesn't work. :D
Not everybody reads all the new member introductions. I created a thread in the backhoe section of the forums so that your question will get the attention it deserves. I posted a comment to CE regarding an article last month or February, and that's when I actually noticed the Forum link.
I've been a reader of Construction Equipment for years and years and have contributed articles and comments for the magazine. Was a Maintenance Manager of the month in CE a while back, 2002 or somewheres around that.
Larry Stewart and I have talked for years and visited at the road shows occasionally, so I'm no newcomer to the magazine. But somehow I overlooked this forum, though believe I had suggested it a while back (probably along with many others) when CE was looking for website ideas.
I'm enjoying writing in the forum, and seeing the exchange of opinions and ideas from all over, particularly input from the blokes from down under and over in Europe. There's a lot of neat guys involved in the website.
I've been on the FleetXchange website for years as a member, but that is nearly all trucking. I've also contributed to the Historical Construction Equipment Association, Antique Caterpillar Machinery Owners Club, and Dave's Model Toys websites. So am quite happy that I stumbled upon this site, as big, heavy iron is where it's at for me.

I found HEF through the LetsTalkSnow forums. The lurk listen & learn method has worked well for me ( I hope you don't mind )
 the continued visits here are only fueling my desire to play with the big boy toys. ......*sigh* maybe someday
Yep...been looking through the boards for a few days now. I was looking for a heavy equipment forum site for a few days and finally this one popped up on Yahoo! Not sure of the search string and all. But I've really enjoyed the threads.

I had answered a forum on indeed.com and a gentlemen from this website responded to me and directed me here. I am looking for a start in the industry. I currently work for a construction company, originally they told me that I could learn how to run any piece of equipment that I wanted. Now they tell me no because I am a female and they don't let women run their equipment because they are "old fashioned" about that. I flag and labor for them and they don't mind me shoveling down in a hole like a man, but operating is out of the question. Looking for help.

I found HEF thru the Antique Caterpillar Machinery Enthusiast forum. There are several here who are members of both.

I joined HCEA, but they never seemed to materialize into anything so I kind of blew them off and yesterday I got an email saying they had repaired the site. I think this site is much more user friendly from what I've read and viewed.:Cowboy
