I operated a new high track D-6 LGP today Pushing Snow--at a local Snow Dump & had a center track Roll come OFF-& was asked? to get the ID numbers off the Data Tag--& was Surprised to find Out this CAT was Manufactured by Mitsubishi--Don*t We in AMERICA make any-thing any-MORE?--& now that VOLVO Ownes all the Heavy Duty Truck Lines --except KW & PETE--whats happening Here?--& when I got Off work & stopped to buy GAS!-there on the Side of a Building! Was a HUGE ADD!--which Stated-[Buy AMERICAN!] ???--Where?--Ole JIM--

Had a guy that lived across the street from me, a few years ago. He'd just bought a new Chevy pickup, and was proud a h#ll about it. He was a died in the wool Union man, and so proud about buying American.

I told him his truck was made in Canada, just like mine. After a hissy fit of about 30 minutes, I showed him the data plate, and the way to read the codes. Finally convinced him. Told him to look down the street - at the Toyota sitting in a driveway - told him THAT was an American truck.

You're right - pretty hard to tell what is and isn't American these days - without a bit of research. The average Harley is something like only 91% American these days.

Cat excavators have been made by Mitsubishi since the late '80s and assembled in Belgium, so having thr new 5N made by them is not suprising

Cat has a marketing agreement with Mitsubishi... there are probably a few more products out there that aren't manufactured directly by Cat.

As far as outsourcing goes, yeah, well, that's the way companies like to make money. As outrageous as it may seem, Cat's dozer line has improved, so I wouldn't take away too much credit from the folks at Mitsubishi.

In the mid to late 80's Cat bought mitsubishi excavator line the 300 series are them (315 325 etc.)

The first excavator line that Cat used from mitsu was the EL series, the series before the 300 series :bash
