Any of you guys know whether the early Cat cabs(as below)were rated for protection(fall on/over)?
Also I have been told by a mechanic that in order to fit a 4in1 bucket I would need all the original Cat lines/swivels/controls......is there any reason why I couldn't use a T fitting off the ripper controls and run custom steel/flexible hose lines?

Z240, that's a soft cab in the picture you posted...it's not rated for anything.

I guess you could run the hyds the way you say, but it would probably be easier to get what you need from a machine that's being parted out.

Thanks Rusted but having difficulty locating the parts in Tasmania, have found a 955 on the mainland but the guy wants $1000 for the lines and controls....and i am not even sure they will fit the 941 let alone transporting them(awkward dimensions/fragile)

Hi, Z240.
Rusted is right. That cab is a 'soft' cab, NOT a ROPS or a FOPS.

The Cat 955 hydraulic lines won't fit straight onto the 941. You may find it helpful to contact Expressway Spares at Wauchope, N.S.W. for the parts you need to convert to a 4-in-1 bucket.

R. D. Williams in Brisbane is another good source of Cat spares.

The 941's had totally separate circuits for the crowd, hoist, 4-in-1 and the rippers, giving a total of 4 hydraulic control levers under your right hand AND 4 valves in the hydraulic tank. Believe me, the original system, once you get the hang of it, is far better than pretty much anything you might cobble together with bits and pieces from anywhere.

Another thought has just occurred to me. My employer has the bones of his first ever 941 still sitting out the back of the workshop. I'm pretty sure that the ripper lines are all still there. I can ask him if he wants to sell them and, if so, how much. Would you be interested in copping the freight from the Gold Coast to the Apple Isle?

Tracks on this machine are just about shot but still all there, minus the worn-off metal, of course. Main frame and tranny are intact, loader kit is almost all still there, I think there is a 4-in-1 bucket for it and I think there is an engine in 'kit' form still in the workshop.

He has sold it once already. The buyer paid for it and never returned to pick it up. That was almost 3 years ago now.

Over to you.

Deas Plant,
thanks for that
i would definately be interested to know what your employer has that may be of use in my quest for a 4in1/941 and what sort of money he is after
is the machine complete enough to warrant a resurrection??....may be another option for me?
let me know if you can
cheers

Hi, Paul.
The frame of this machine has around 35,000 hours on it. Tracks would need bulk bucks quite quickly. I'm not even sure that the ripper itself is still there. I do know that it has been taken off. At best, I would say this is a parts machine.

I do know that the ripper control lines, etc., are still there. I suspect that the ram has the pivot broken off one side. The 4-in-1 lines down the loader arms are still mostly there too. I'm not sure how much if any of the bucket is still there.

Yep, Parts only.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Thanks guys
Being a novice I would like extra protection, what are the options for ROPS/FOPS over the top of the existing cab?
Hope there is an option as I'd really like safety AND comfort:cool:
