637 slayer i was told of a terex twin somehere in victoria that was set up really well, it was converted to water cart had the front of the tank reinforced and a sort of mouldboard put on it for grading, the apron ram was used for a row of scarifiers set up much the same as the ones on graders. i was never able to find out were it was so i dont have any pics but maybe someone out there has seen it laying around. the whole idea of it sounds like a perfect machine.

Yes, I seen scrapers (paddle wheels) set up with teeth on the cutting edge, just the center bit, not whole cutting edge.
They were just like loader or excavator bucket teeth. Worked real good. :usa

I havn't posted in a while because I have been really busy. But I have been stopping in to read when I find the time and have really been enjoying all the recent scraper action in here.
I ran an old TS14 for a while that had a ripper mounted on the back of it. It was a great setup. It tucked in above the push block when not being used so the push block was still functional. To use it there was extra level that dropped it down and then you raised the bowl up to plant the teeth in the ground. One pass ripping would give me three good passes loading. I often wonder why its the only one I ever seen because it worked so well. I'm not sure if I have any pictures of it, I will have a look when I get a chance.

that is the way that i imagined would work the best some kind of setup on the back if you could set up some hyd lines to run all the way bak there. you wouldnt ever be able to see what your ripping. i seen a terex twin waterwagon with 4 ripper teeth off a blade welded to the front of the water tank, where the cutting edges should be and that worked really good.

I've run Cat 613's with teeth and adapters on the cutting edge, and I've seen623's and 495 Internationals with teeth on the edge, mostly some years ago in Colorado. Haven't seen any set up this way recently. I saw a Euc scraper long ago with a ripper setup on the back, but never got close to it.
Extended center edges on scrapers and a good healthy push cat have proven to be more productive I think.

I've seen several scrapers with teeth just never a ripper. I'd like to see some pics.
I have worked along side 627Bs with teeth on their centre edge, makes easier loading & breaks up heavy clay to make easier spreading, think Cat have adapters that bolt over the edge with replacable teeth pinned on to them.

ive spent alot of time by myself a long way from a cat and when the blade hand thought he was too busy to come help, or mad at me or flirting with flaggers and with a dropped center bit grinding on a rock that was above grade, these are the times when i try to devise a ripper setup for my 37, then patend it and get rich.

John Deere 760's, a small three axle elevating scraper which I was told are excellent finishing machines, have a scarifier mounted below the tractor's rear axle as an option. You can see it in the picture, just underneath the rear axle.

I saw one once at the Richie Brothers auction facility in Phoenix while on vacation. Looked to be a very handy item, especially useful since the small paddlewheels usually work alone finishing and doing small jobs.
I have been on jobs running Cat 613B's ( a miserable machine, the cab was designed for a midget) and would have been glad to have one of these.

Alan I've seen those on 660 before too, but the pan was gone so I guess it was just some redneck ripper setup.

I've seen some tooth designs on cutting edges on scrapers, but they've all been home grown designs that one of the company mechanics devised. None seemed to be very effective. A drop center is usually all that's needed. Or call in the IronWolf or Vermeer to grind up the rock first.
The one thing I have seen a few times, and always kind of wondered about are serrated cutting edges on paddlewheels. I've seen a few 623's with serrated cutting edges, like graders have, and never really could figure out the logic for them?

Here are a few of a TS-14 that JStepp and I found after last summers ATHS national show in Colorado Springs. This looked to be the "training" machine as he operated alone and took forever to get even 1/2 a load. In the 631E's and S-24 defense, they had a nice D9N pushing, with a D8L radial ripper (?), and a D8R ripping. The contractor is Rice and Rice, out of Pueblo (I think). Hope that the photos can come through. This was a new High School in Monument Colorado, looking toward the Airforce Academy, Im sure that the place looks like a college campus, the way they build them round here they put my old high school to shame, we didnt even have two gyms!!

great prictures, that is the way i always imagined would work the best, get a big load on and do some ripping.looks like with that setup though you wouldnt be able to get pushed, those scrapers look like they are in good shape, i cant tell the ages very well with terexs unless they are white.
