Good work that, railroad repair. But sometimes it can be restricting, as you have to stay on the right of way. There is going to be a lot of repair work across the country after this last storm moves off. I've been off all week because it's been too wet to get in the big fills on the highway job near here. We got over three inches of rain in the last storm, this just east of Phoenix.

there is a weather recording thing near the bad part of track and it showed 13 inches of rain in 24 hours. we do alot of rail road work so all the rule and right of way stuff is every day for us.

The Port of Tillamook Bay Railroad (I assume that's what you're referring to)got hit hard by the '07 storm. From what I've been able to gather it's even worse than the '96 flooding. Post lots of pics if Franklin gets the job.

I sure hope the funding for doing the job comes in. There's two sawmills in Tillamook heavily dependent on this line staying open.

the funding is coming from fema so it should be there. if we get the job,i am sure ill be on it and ill take pics every day. most likely wont start till after the first of the year.

Rick did the rebuild after the 1996 flood and the job total was around 5 million and took 6 weeks for his part of the work. so far word around the shop is 10-15 million and 8-12 weeks.

Yeah, I was up in your neck of the woods a couple of years ago. It rained every day we was there. Nice and green tho, but I can see why things tend to wash away.

here is a few more i just found.the picture that look like nothing mud and trees is the end of a tunnel that was buried in a huge mud slide. they figue it is about 20,000 cubic yard of mud, and will lake about 20-30 days to clean out. and the spot where the road is missing they figure about 1 month to fix that then on to all the other wash outs in the pics.

The power of water is an awesome thing...and in your case a money maker. ;)

They say water can move mountains and if these pictures don't prove it, I'm not sure of anything that will. The pictures are much appreciated. Progress shots would be great too. :D

Is this a short line (feeder) track or is this part of the mainline? If it's mainline what part does the Railroad play in the cleanup and repair? Do you know what Railroad services that area?

On Edit: Yeah, and what Lash asked. Seems I might be jumping the gun a little. I thought yall already had the job. :popcorn

we found out today that we got the job for two reasons. no one else in the area has the right equipment to do this type of work on a rail road, and the other is no one else would even go look at it(or maybe the rail road didn't ask anyone else). it should take 3-4 months to finish it all up we will be working 7 days a week most likely 12-14 hours a day with a 1.5 hour drive home

http://www.potb.org/ that is the rail road company that owns it.

this was one of those jobs where when they call they ask for a price not a bid.So we figured we had it from the start but it was not for sure.

so they told us today that there is an estimated 250,000 cubic tons of mud to haul away and at least that much rock to haul in on this job.

think we'll ever get an update on this job?

trainwreck
06-01-2008, 07:32 PM
lol well this started out as a mad dash. hurry and come bid this we have to work NOW. and that is as far as they have made it. fema gave them 75% of the money and the state of Oregon was to put out the other 25%. then our fine governor here said that it is not a big deal to not have that rail road in place and wont let go of oregons share of the money. so here we sit.

Trainwreck,

In Post #8, is the last photo a picture of the bridge on I think its HWY 26? It looks like the exact same view that was shown on AX MEN last night. I don't remember exactally but I was pretty sure it was on HWY 26. You guys have your work cut out for you thats for sure, IF you can do it that is.
