I learned in a speech by President Bush of a site you can visit to send our troops a message of support, AmericaSupportsYou.mil (http://www.americasupportsyou.mil/) . You can send just a simple message or become involved in greater fashion, it's up to you.
How great would it be to let our troops know we're thinking of them during this holiday season, or any other time for that matter? Without them putting their lives on the line for our Country, we would not enjoy the way of life we have today.
Take a look!

Why not go the extra mile and send them a care package? I guess they don't get much of a chance to clean up over there, so the antibacterial wipes, or the 'waterless' hand soap are goodies. Current sports mags, prepaid phone cards to call home are other goods they'd like to see.
We'll be bundling some of this up and dropping it off for delivery out East this Xmas.

We have been doing this and just found out something interesting. The post office doesn't actually send the packages that are not addressed to someone specific. There are just too many packages. Make sure you have a name of an individual or a specific platoon etc. to make sure yours gets there. Our local news had a spot on this issue recently. It is good to know that so many packages are being sent that they are having a hard time keeping up with it. Much different than when I was in Vietnam, thank God.

Steve:
Good Post!!!
As a recently retired military type, and as one of these guys that has spent way too many days and nights away from home and hearth, I commend you on bringing this to the attention of the masses.
I can tell you from experience, any contact from home brightens the day for a young lad or lass, especially during the holiday season.
Though the "to any soldier" programs have gotten out of hand due to security interests and the problems of fair distribution, there are many organizations that will direct cards, messages and/or presents the the deployed forces. I strongly urge all readers to explore these organizations and bring a little cheer to the young men and women that find themselves in harm's way.

If any of you are looking for someone to send something to a service member I can ask My daughter. Right now she is some where in the Persan Gulf.

I brought this back as I learned of another way to show support. I got this in an email and checked it out on Snopes, it's legit:
Subject: lets say thanks (it's legit; I just sent mine).
This is a great idea. Please take time to show your support.
Something nice that Xerox is doing for our troops for Thanksgiving...
If you go to this web site, www.letssaythanks.com , you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services.
How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!! This is a great site. Please send a card.
It is FREE and it only takes a second.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these? Whether you are for or against the war, our guys and gals over there deserved to be thanked and supported.
Please try and take a moment this Thanksgiving Season to do this.
