http://www.cat.com/cda/components/fullArticle?m=38622&x=7&id=656376 I don't like the new boom over the mono-boom, but hopefully a mine around here gets one soon.:drinkup

Not to fear... the 992K retains the monoboom. :)
And countryboy, this answers your question officially: the 992K replaces the 992G, and the 993K is a new machine size.

Interesting that Cat is copying Komatsu in burning off some engine oil during operation of the machine. Komatsu did not have a replacement reservoir however, at least not the WA600 models I was around. I wonder how that oil effects exhaust emissions?

Hmmm- Copying Komatsu? Cat's been burning used oil in marine applications for generations now. I believe the option for the used oil management has been out for a while on the Cat loaders and off highway trucks, about the same amount of time Komatsu has.
Correct me if I'm wrong someone......
I've worked on a few 777Cs and 992Gs with this option. I know originally emissions was not a concern with the oil burning, primarily performance was the only concern. Nowadays with emissions getting tight on large machines its getting a lot harder to keep meeting laws with burning used oil. The system on the 993K has grown up a lot with more filtering and refining.

Isn't it just amazing how everone thinks about Cat and Komatsu! In the very early 80's the Komatsu salesman was trying to sell me a new D85. One of his pitches was I could use alot of Cat parts on it. Bought the D7G and never looked back.

Huh ! Finally they got wise , and use easy replacement glass window mountings , versus the glued in glass. :)
Another option is zip-in zip-out glass. This feature provides rubber-mounted glass, which does not require adhesives to retain the glass. The system enables fast changes of damaged glass.
Hhmmn, reading it over, says "option" .

Is that the sort that Noah used to retain the glass in the Ark he built ? Had a rubber like band that went around the frame and the glass wedged in the other side! ;) Obviously there was no glue in those days so he had to come up with another method of retaining the glass ( which wasn't invented either ) :D :stirthepot

I hope it is quicker than the 994s. If it has the speed of a 992, with a bit more grunt, then it will be good. If it is as slow as the 994s, then not so good.

It has about the same speed as the 992 and A LOT more grunt.

Is it more stable, With cat loaders not enough counter weight, feels like the nose is going to smah in the ground.
Some pic's of 993K's at the factory waiting for finish paint and shipping

Is that a 992 or 988 sitting next to it in the last pic? If its a 992 that thing sure is allot bigger than I thought.

It's a 988H...
Those cabs look "bald" (for lack of a better word) without the roll bar!
Lotta machines in the pics... quality hold?

It is much more stable fore-aft than the 992, not quite as good as the 994, but it is rock solid all around, and great while loading the bucket.

I am desperately trying not to comment on the tyres  must be something to do with the world shortage of rubber, or their trying out the theory of narrower gives more grip, like rock tracks on face shovels :crazy

I'd imagine the tires are for moving around the plant during finishing. If you notice they haven't been masked off for painting, I believe the proper tires would be installed after the loader is completed and ready for shipping.
