X3 my old boss would jump all over that if he did have to pay so much to repower them. Thats why he loves Terex's he picks them up for $20Ks and does the repower himself that only cost him $4-6K.

The 631C was a fine machine and much better than the 631D that replaced it, in my ever so humble opinion. It was quicker and powered through the soft spots better, it loaded better. What the hell -- it was better! I can't speak for the new 631's being produced now tho I suppose they have a real nice cab. I know they cost an arm and a leg to buy.

Wasn't the C a stiff neck?

No it wasn't Brian, it was the first of the 31's to have the cushion hitch as I recall. I never saw a "B" model with the cushion hitch tho there may have been some very late production models with it.

I've never ran a 31 but I was always told D's where better. Our one formen always said ya only make Cents with Cs and Dollars with Ds.:beatsme

The 631 C's that i ran had the cushion hitch on them.

The old B's had the three speed trans that shifted up twice more in each gear. They would get weak and try to shift then drop back to convertor.

Used to drive me crazy, hoping or wondering if it was ever going to shift.Plus they would stand right up on the fuel tanks if you wasn't careful.Since the fuel tank was mounted on the rear of the B's.

No comparesion between the C series and the B's.Lots of changes between the two, like day and night.Never got to run a D so couldn't tell you much about them?

Around the year 2000 I had a customer with four 631 scrappers as I remember it they were suppose to be all C models and the same.
turned out two had been double barreled and converted to singles.
even so, we all made a lot of money off them.
For Me it started with the hydraulic tank mounts breaking and tanks falling off
to welding and plating broken goose necks behind the steering cylinders

Thanks CountryBoy: The old 631B's were good scrapers, but i have to agree with surfer joe. The 631C's in my opinion were the best 31 scrapers. I did'nt run any D's, but i bet there about like the 631E's. To me , they were hard to load, i mean you could stall out a 10N pushcat put easy if the material was a little hard. the 631C's were much easier to load only in my opinion. Thanks Tim
