What year is it, around a '74 maybe? How many cubes?

Hi, it is a 1972 sportster that came stock with 61 cubic inches. I have had some metal relieved to fit some bigger flywheels. I went from the stock 3 13/16" stroke to 4 5/8"giving me about 73.8 cubes. I also went from .380 and .400 lift to cams with a .490 lift on both. I wanted to bigger jugs but the '72 cases just aren't strong enough for the fabrication of welding the holes and drilling and tapping new ones a little farther apart for the bigger jugs, then I could have had 86.8 or so cubes. I could have done that with a set of 1974 or later cases. I got one of these billet scorpion clutches to handle the extra torque and just got it fired up today and took 2 break-in rides letting it cool down all the way between!! I topped it off with the s&s super "E" and VERY pleased with the new torque. When it is good and broken in then it will get a wet nitrous kit, then it will be time for finding a quarter mile track and getting my times. I have been waiting 7 years to do this build and this is the first half, second half will be the frame and springer, teardrop tank, fatter tire and paint.

I really like those S&S carbs. Very simple and they work great. I had a super B on my '75 sporty, which worked very well even without having the accel pump. I see you had the rear motor mount off of it. Cracks?? Mine was, had to cut it off and replaced it with a Pingel which slipped right on without needing to disassemble too much of the motor.
The only real irritating troubles I had with my '75 sporty were (1) the centrifical advances used to wear out very fast. The weight pivot holes would get oblonged on them. Found a stainless steel unit and never had trouble with it again. (2) The rear chain would stretch very fast & it was hard to keep adjusted correcty. Those sporties really put alot of stress on the chains with their high torque while running at low rpm's. Mine always had a big difference between it's tight and loose spots (slack difference) while turning it too adjust. I put the big "o-ring" chain on it once which didn't stretch so bad, but it would dig into the case/cover when it was even the slightest bit loose because of it's bigger size. I ended up switching back to non o-ring and replacing the rear brake drum/sprocket with a new one which was more true, but still had a noticealbe tight/loose difference.:beatsme

YEA!! that would be great to hear a harley starting a cat, I wonder how the exuast would mix in the morninf air? I really like this S&S, I have only been able to adjust the idle becuase the break-in proceedure in pretty strict on these stroker pistons. I have got about 20 miles so far. The mount is in great shape, just off for splitting the cases. I had the advance replaced when I have this work done to it. There have been 2 trouble spots for me in the last 7 years with this bike, #1 spark plugs would fuel foul every 200 miles and wouldn't start unless they were changed, I went 2 sizes hotter with bosh platinum #4036 and they worked great, #2 starting:Banghead so much compression that it takes a heck of a battery and now it is worse. 9/1 compression stock and 10 1/2/1 now. I am going to have to get the 1.4k starter and at least a 300amp battery to do it now. I went and got the big charger from work and it puts out 325amp in starting mode and it cranks right over, I just bought a new yousa battery and I think it may be bad. My old battery did better than this one. I got the machine work and rotating assembly done here http://www.truettandosborn.com/ they make their own and have everything for sportster and shovelhead. The new torque is just unbelievable with this longer stroke:) :woohoo I can hardly keep from craking the throttle but I better wait and get'er broke in correctly, that's why the nitrous is not on the bike now! I also got a 23 tooth front sproket to keep that torque at hand. If you have a '75 ironhead they have all you need to get 86 - over 100 cubic inches with those cases. There is a 5" stroke kit you can get but forget kick starting, mine is electric only and that is a good thing because I think I would hurt myself with my back!

If you have a '75 ironhead they have.....I wish I still had it. Sold it in the mid 90's.:Banghead
I've a shovel now, but think I'd just buy a complete S&S 93" if it crapped the bed, instead of rebuilding it myself. They sure don't give them away though, $$$, I see!!:eek: They're going for more than their Evolution motors.:confused:
I'm going with the "NOT" crapping the bed plan for now.:idea:o
Are you over on the HDforums also? I think I read a post over there about an ironhead fouling plugs every 200 miles earlier, which sounded like a similair situation too yours.:beatsme
If you get a pic of it completed I'd like to see it.
