There's quite a number of us here now, thought it might be interesting to learn the most popular type of music among our members.

I was raised on country, it was all my Dad listened to. In high school I found rock, then pop, and a bit of dance music. Seems I've gone full circle though, I like the message that most country music gives, and I'm not concerned to play it with my daughter around like some music.

Anyone else?

....I'm not concerned to play it with my daughter around like some music.

Daddy, what exactly do they mean, "Save a horse, ride a cowboy"? :)

I always listened to rock, to the exclusion of everything else. I never did like "disco". These days my tastes are more eclectic--I'm just as likely to have a country station on the radio as a rock one. I agree wholeheartedly about the message in country music. Which brings up the other end of that spectrum--I absolutely can't tolerate the music that's popular with the "urban" crowd, not so much for the music itself, as for the lyrical (?)content.

I usually listen to rock, but listen to country once in a while. The stuff I absolutely can't stand is rap and the newer urban stuff. There's a lot of lyrics in all kinds of music that I don't care for, but luckily for me I can't hear them half the time. When I listen, it's usually for the music itself. I'll even go so far as to change the station when a couple of songs come on. Some things just weren't meant to be said in public

You got me digger!

Big & Rich is a new group that's a bit risqué for country, I hope their lyrics are as bad as it gets!

I don't consider rap music, that's why it doesn't appear in the poll. They take someone else's melody, chant obscenities to it and make millions doing so. How do I get in on this?

For myself, in this order. Country, classic rock, oldies, classical. That is pretty much it. I will, on occasion listen to some new age stuff.

Excellent Thread (Poll) I chose Rock, even tho I am currently in a band that plays EVERYTHING. Except for rap and classical. I like classical, but it doesn't go over in the bar real well. We play the variety and it lets us cater to any crowd. I have to agree on the rap issues. I mean, art is one thing, but sometimes they cross the line and go beyond the limits of good taste. But thats just my opinion. It boils down to this....I like "MUSIC".
And when they say, "Save a horse, ride a cowboy" they are implying that some horses don't like to be ridden, so you can jump on the back of a cowboy instead. I am sure of it.
I do like the video tho! :cool2

If Rock music was invented for people who can't sing well, then Rap (Crap?) was invented for people who can't sing at all!;) I won't pay to hear 3 or 4 people yell at me for any other reason, and I'm not sure I'd know what they were talking about, even IF I could actually make out what they were saying!
Rock or electric Blues are my music of choice, although some classical can be cool, and country is growing on me, especially since there is so much "border crossing" going on in music these days.
At the end of the day, it's whatever gets you through....

As I was going through my "long haired" teenage days I loved "rock & roll". I even went through the "disco music thing" and enjoyed that. Now in my "no hair days" I listen to country or should I say "new country" music as well as some light rock. :)

Mostly Rock for me. Old rock (Iron Maiden, Sabbath, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd) Some newer stuff and some Euro metal (Nightwish, Sameal, Therion etc) Some "world music" like Enya, Loreena McKennitt etc.

CW Mcall is a favorite

I'll basicaly listen to anything that strikes my fancy...and ignore anything that doesn't! :D

Whoa whoa whoa.....if there wasn't rap and pop we girls wouldn't have nothing to shake our booties to:p :D

As for me mainly country but i'll listen to anything from opera (Pavarotti and Andrea Boccelli, GENIUS) the dreaded rap (Eminem....come on "I get more ass than a toilet seat", GENIUS) LMAO!

My new favoritest (I'm sure that's a word) country songs are "Life in a Northern Town" Sugarland, Little Big Town and Jake Owen.

And "Troubadour" By the man George Strait it reminds me very much of my hoe operator.
