Is there an Michigan/Clark equipment expert here??

There is a man needing help with a Michigan 55 front end loader at another forum

Question asked from the non-heavy equipment related forum:

Okay, I have a question to ask for a new member; he is trying to diagnose a Michigan 55 front end loader; the only thing that works is the engine - no lift, no steer or tilt - no hydraulic anything. Neither he nor I know one thing about them.

Other followup about the machine:

Okay, let me follow up a little bit.

Seb has found one hydraulic tank and added 6 gallons to it. He can see one shaft to a pump through a hole in the floor plate. The shaft to it is not turning.
He suspects that shaft is driven by a primary hydraulic pump.
Does that sound likely? Is there more than one hydraulic reservoir & pump on this machine?

Seb's post:

Thanks for the good info.
From what I can tell the hydrostatic engine output is working with a drive shaft to what looks like a PTO/ transfer case with no output too the diffs. or hydraulic too the controls.
Thanks Again
Seb

And that all the info that I have about the machine.

hi i work for the michigan dealer in the uk and if i can help no probs 1) can you tell me what model range the 55 is from eg 111a,b,c this will help as all the drives can be different 2)has all output been lost, trans drive and hyd`s because if you have lost all output then the fault is probably due to the fibre drive ring failure on the engine flywheel (steel star finger drive in later mod`s)which is quite indepth to do but is not rocket engineering plse tell me how you get on with your fault regards onearmedbandit

As 'onearmedbandit' says if the 55 has lost both hydraulic operations and loss of drive through the transmission then the fibre drive ring on the flywheel has probably dropped to bits. This was a common issue on our 55's, 275's & 475's and whenever we had the engines out for repair/overhaul we always replaced the fibre drive ring as a precaution.

I'm also gonna go with the last 2 responses. We had the same problem on our Michigan 55 and it ended up being the fibre ring
