Here's a few more scenes from the Adventures of LowBoy...

Njoy.:D

1) John Deere 250 articulated dumper from Hertz rentals Plainfield, NJ to same company, store transfer to outside Washington, DC.

2)Freightliner container hauler parked at the TA travel center in Baltimore, Md. Had to snap a pic, since the "lakers" stuck out in my mind.(Lakers are an old-school term for "sidepipes", for all you young whippersnappers.)

3) Iraqui Armored Vehicles. Very cool deal. I picked one up near Lansing, Michigan where they are built. At the facility they start out as a stripped chassis, about a 300+ inch wheelbase, no cabs, just 2 framerails, tandem rears and a motor, a seat and steering wheel. The yard jockeys literally wear motorcycle helmets to move them around in the yard; (musta had an incident to warrant this...)
They are Cummins powered, Marmon-Herrington drivetrain, and mostly Kenworth branded. Allison auto, etc. The armored bodies are built there, and shipped to Baltimore port daily, and loaded onto the ship in the background by the dozens for our guys to use in the middle east.
I unloaded the one I had and took it for a good test drive around the port, loving every second of the ride, but got caught by yard personell and had to park it. Oh well, don't get to drive something like that every day...

4)Case 125B excavator which I admirably called "the Sad Case"...The contractor in Franklin Lakes,NJ sold it on eBay to another contractor in Mechanicsville,Va. by Wash. D.C.
They specialize in "deep hole excavation", going down to depths of 40-50 feet with special hydro. clamshell buckets mounted on the hoe booms. This guy has a 125B and liked it, so the one I brought was no big surprise to him. Deutz air cooled diesel, and a half a can of ether to get it running, it was so wore out. Price was right evidently...
I loaded it on Feb.24th (wifey's birthday,) in a blistering sleet/freezing rain/snowstorm. That was the week Pa. closed I-78 and I-81 down due to poor conditions. Jersey was no better.
Couldn't get permits because Jersey was closed down due to storm, so Mahwah,NJ was home that day.:duh dropped trailer and machine at so-called truckstop. Next day I arrive at trailer to find 3 feet of snow plowed in front of the gooseneck. Made me wonder if the guy who plowed the snow there was the type to take an accidental dump while laying in bed, and just push it out with his feet.:Banghead
Shoveled 3X10 foot snowpile to get hooked up, now I'm mean. Take off like a banshee for Va., get to Fogelsville, Pa. 2 hrs. away, to find 40 miles of I-78 shut down due to snow/ice buildup.
Funny how Oswego,NY got 11 feet dumped on them that storm, and never skipped a beat; Pa. and Jersey got 11 millimeters and shut the two major interstates down for 4 days...:beatsme
They detoured all traffic down US 222, a 2 lane skinny road to Lancaster,Pa. I was so mad by then I blended in with the rest of the traffic, (only a little wider by 2 feet or so, but who's counting,) severely off my permitted route by now.
On the way back through on Saturday, both roads were still closed while they continued to bulldoze and scrape with graders, the packed snow off the interstates.Took me 10 hours from Harrisburg,Pa. to home instead of 7, mumbling profanities at the ones responsible for dropping the ball on this storm every mile.
Not nearly as inconvenienced as the motorists that were stranded for 24-30 hrs. on those roads, out of gas, food, etc.according to the news. At least I was moving and had a full stomach...

Knock on simulated wood (my own thick head,) nedly05, I haven't gotten harrassed YET in any particularly bad way. Been lucky to this point, but I'm quite confident that with the spring weather breaking, there'll be more and more opportunities for the DOT to excersize their authority.
I do have all nice new equipment, and keep everything super-maintained. Whenever I have a little downtime waiting to load/unload, etc., I throw my coveralls on and slide underneath the rig and grease and check and fix whatever needs to be fixed, which helps drastically.
It all could change today though...When Johnny Law decides it's time, look out...:guns :guns :guns

I was the same way.
In the 3 years that I had my 86 Pete, I was never pulled in for an inspection.
The secret? Just before my current sticker was due I'd pull in for a voluntary inspection. The CHP often thought this was odd behavior but they had to inspect me . In and out in under 10 minutes. Its amazing how smoothly it goes when every thing's in good working order.
