View Full Version : Skid Steer Brake Repairs

I am looking for some information on repairing brakes on skid steers. I have an old Erickson Husky skid steer built circa 1969. It needs brake work.

I'm not a mechanic, but as I understand brakes, if the brake pedal falls to the floor, which this does, the problem is likely with the master cylinder (it's not just spongy). I have already bled the brakes, but not the master cylinder. There does not appear to be any leaks in the system.

This skid steer has a simple system of two drum brakes and the master cylinder looks original. I thinks it is very unlikely I could find an original master cylinder since Erickson Corp. seems to be long extinct.

So, can anyone tell me if brake systems in skid steers are simple enough and common enough that I could use a master cylinder from another make or a "generic" master cylinder? And if so, where and how could I get one? Or are repair kits for master cylinders like this available? Again, if so, where, how, etc?

I know there are a lot of knowledgable mechanics and do-it-yourselfers out there. Can anyone help? Any helpful information will very much appreciated!

Thanks
