Interesting. I'm not well-versed with the waste applications -- any ideas on the usefulness of this machine? (Advantages over a bladed-compactor?)

Maybe you could heap the material better, instead of having to build a ramp with the blade. :beatsme

Ok, I'll take the easy way out........more Versatility. :D

More versatility sounds about right... :D

but my line of thinking was that if it's a compactor, it spends most of its time using its wheels to compact, not its blade. The blade is used mostly to push material to where it needs to be compacted, no? But if this is to be used in a transfer station setting, it wouldn't have compactor wheels.

So I got confused. :beatsme

Since you shot down my idea......I had to do some reading. Thanks Tiger. :D

Here is the purpose of the boom and bucket as opposed to the blade.

From the site in the first post.
The new "lightweights" from BOMAG have also been designed especially for landfill site applications; they are equipped with dozer blade or loading bucket. In addition to the distribution and compaction of refuse, the bucket version enables this machine to be used for pre-sorting and displacing refuse as well as for the transportation and distribution of covering material.

I knew I was right. :bouncegri

hello everyone,
i havent been posting much lately. but i have been lurking in the shadows, lol.
tiger you are absolutely right. a compactor is designed for compacting. that is its main job. if you are off pushing waste around or especially using it it as loader it is not packing.
the landfill business is about selling "air space" . the more waste we can fit into this "air space" the more money we make.
here is the part i like about the industry.
WE CHARGE BY THE TON. WE STORE BY CUBIC YARD!!
so the more tonnage we compact into a cubic yard the more money we make. believe me there is alot of training in compaction in our company.
the way we use compactors (Cat 836 C&G ) the bucket config would be useless. we prefer a semi u blade. oh by the way when your dozers are broke down , the 836C makes a pretty good cover machine.
later!!
